Lenny Kravitz - Black & White in America

It's out on the interweb now...

I like Lenny (have all his albums on my Mac) but I've never been a huge fan of him. Let Love Rule was prob my fav of his, until now. To me his new album is one of the best Funk albums to come out in years. The ryhthm guitar is wicked, the percussion is funky, and the synths on Looking Back On Love took me by surprise but it was awesome.

Anyway, to thos of u who have heard it im curious what u think of it...

Me too. Call me old fashioned but I love to have the cd and liner notes. I've already made a space for this one in my cd collection.

Yawn. No. More like, ugh. I heard 15 seconds of "Boongie Drop" and

remembered that after Circus, I stop giving a damn about Lenny Kravitz

other than to see what he was wearing. And something of "Boongie Drop"

reminded me of that song "Get Fucked Up" by Iconz. Weird.

By the way, in Charleston, SC, "boongie" is rendered "boonkee";

Charleston Black American culture is fucking off the hook.

But I digress.

I have heard Stand, Rock Star City Life & Superlove, there not life changing songs but damn there rocking!, and that's what i expect from Lenny. I liked his last album It Is Time For A Love Revolotuion. People whine about his 00's output which is crazy cause his last album was good, and Lenny is one of his best.. Baptism though... flipped off flipped off bored feeling ill ill sick headache

I think this will be a great album.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Black And White America seems like a good Album. But I think after 2 Weeks I would get bored of it like most of his stuff. There is nothing special or unique about it that makes me say "Wow, thats a great album". Like for example i got into Prince's music in October last year and still listen to him daily and don't get bored of him because his music is so different and unique.

It's hardly the funk album that was promised, and I find that disappointing.

I'm not saying there is nothing funky about it, there is, as there has always been with Lenny's music.

I was just hoping that when Lenny hyped a funk ALBUM, he would go all out, but, IMO, he did not.

Instead, to my ears, the lp is similar to all his albums in that it dabbles in rock, pop, soul, and yes, funk...

That said, not a bad album, definitely several really nice tunes on it. I will probably still buy it, so, decent LP.

From the previews on his website it sounds like a funky cool album. I will be buying this one asap and hopes this release does well. I hope his label pushes this one, he's paid some serious dues to be able to be musically relevant over 20 years since his 1st release. Go Lenny!

Yeah it's a really good album... Nothing groundbreaking or very deep, just a solid rock/funk album.

I didn't think much of "Rock Star City Life" when I first heard it but after listening to it several times, that would be a hit single, it's really catchy and really rockin'.

"I Can't Be Without You" would also make a great single... The title track is also very good.

It gets pretty corny towards the end though.... "The Faith Of A Child" is so corny & cheesy that almost can't bare to listen to it.... Hated that song.

The Drake duet... I've heard this guy's name a million times but this is the first time I actually hear him rap and fail to see what this guy adds to the track... The song is kinda cool but never really goes anywhere and the Drake part adds nothing... Lame of Lenny to duet with this guy but can't say I'm surprised. I also think the lead single, "Stand" is pretty corny, but also a well crafted pop song.

The "Boongie Drop" song with Jay-Z is actually really good and could also make a good single.

Overall, it's a really good album that just jams for the first 12 or so tracks before it hits some weak spots. Worth buying. I downloaded the leaked album but have already pre-ordered the real thing.

I think "It is time for a Love Revolution" was a much better album in my opinion. I thought the Love Revolution album was really good.

I'm insanely in love with Lenny so he could record anything and I'll love it biggrin But, I wonder sometimes about his legacy though. He's been in the game a hot minute but it seems like he's not on the path to be one of the "legends" of this era. What could change that? Does he try too hard? Is he not trying hard enough?

Lenny never tries too hard. I just think he does music because it's his passion. If his goal was to be a "legend", I'm sure it would've been in the cards for him a long time ago but not everyone aspires to be a "legend", those that do are bigger than life anyway and Lenny never struck me like that. Is he a legend in a veteran sense, yeah, but a legend of such a big magnitude, nah but I'm okay with that.
