I only know Firework and California Girls.

I can't honestly cheer for what is no longer an accomplishment in this day and age. Popularity is bought like any other commodity. Her music is not very deep or impacting and most likely ten years from now, these songs will be just a faint memory of a good time for todays jr high and high schoolers. This is the era of instant fame, where people go on television, are given t.v. shows and become famous for doing absolutely nothing other than yelling and being an attention whore. It just shows that the science of promotion is effective.

I don't think anyone in their right mind would realistically compare Katy Perry to Michael Jackson in terms of talent.

When it comes to record sales, it is simply a measure of how many people were convinced to buy a product at a given time. It has no bearing on the quality of said product.

I Kissed A Girl will be remember as a classic. No matter how old OR how young you are, two women french-kissing will never go out of style in the minds of men/boys. NEVER! cool

That one slipped my mind. I know three. Still, I don't think much of her songs.

Her latest song has a horn solo. It surprised me.

That's all.

why are so many people saying she didn't earn it? sure she may not be the best singer, dancer or even songwriter (even though i think she does that a lot less often now) but its not like she became popular over night.

In this day and age, NOBODY earns it. Its bought. Sales charts positions are BOUGHT. Its been that way for a little while now.

How could you have not? Especially Teenage Dream, Cali Girls, I Kissed A Girl and TGIF...

To be honest, if you go on living your life and ignore mainstream music and the radio, it's actually really easy.

nod I can't name one song by most so-called "it" artists these days. And I'm not trying to either!

I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

I only know 3 out of the 5 #1 for that same album: California Gurls, Teenage Dream, & Firework.

I don't understand how anyone could make that statement unless they're completely cut off from mainstream society.

One of the five is on the radio every three fuckin seconds.

Really? I own 5 ipods and keep one with me at all times.

Why would I listen 2 any ones playlist but my OWN?

Because it's interesting to hear to what other people are listening to sometimes? Rather than be stuck in your own world?

Yeah... but not crap.

I check out what friends with good tastes recommend.

I also have the internet and can surf to many places to sample music of any style.

I do these things and the ones I like I add to my own playlist.

Interesting how no one with good taste in music has ever recommended Katie. Or Gaga. Or Beiber. Or any other current pop crap.

Maybe Graycap should listen to stuff others are listening to but only if those others have good taste.

I guess someone had to tie it someday, I can live with that....

I also found out that the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack at 7 number ones before MJ had the 5 with Bad. So now there are number ones from a soundtrack, a male solo artist and female solo artist.

I don't listen to Katy Perry or take her seriously after her attempts at trying to be "cool" with I Kissed a Girl, but I finally heard TGIF on the radio at work and in the car and it's awfully catchy though the lyrics are trashy. I can see why it's a hit though Dirty Diana is a way better 5th number one lol
