Neither, cause one tries too hard and the other, doesn't try hard enough....

To be honest, trini, I'd rather for one to try hard than for one to be lazingly sitting on stuff. That's why as much as I hate to say it, I can't really go for Lauryn anymore. She had me in '98 and lost me after '05.

Lauryn lost me long before THAT^. How about that time that Lauryn (in her own words) said that she regretted the day that white people were buying her music. disbelief

In fairness, Lauryn was implying that crossing over to mainstream pop was a mistake. But because of the way she said it, she gave some people the wrong impression that she was borderline racist. neutral

While I understood where Lauryn was coming from with that statement, it was still a dumb thing to say.

Crossover = enlightening other audiences and securing your financial future with added record sales, recognition, touring profits etc.

Crossover = opening the doors for other artists who feel limited or restricted

Crossover = forcing you to change up your style and expand beyond your current talents

R. Kelly has made similar references regarinding crossover appeal and having white people be into black music. I think he even had beef with Justin Timberlake at one time. Maybe there is this fear that white people will jack your style shrug Its all so silly. Somebody will jack your style anyway. It's inevitable.

IMO Jazmine Sullivan and Jill Scott have jacked Lauryn a lil bit.

Something like that... but Lauryn has always struck me as real strange anyway.

nod I immejetly stopped what I was doing and watched her. Everybody else was boo at the poor girl.

I also used to visit one of my BFFs at Grambling and used to see her walking around campus with a headwrap on. My friend was like, "Yeah, that's Erica she sings and shit." Ms. Wright has been the same hippie chick from Day 1. That's why I don't get this "trying too hard" stuff. She is who she be, and ain't fronting.

I know right? Plus she's still who she's been since day one. Can't say the same for Lauryn, er, Ms. Hill.
