Warrant Lead Singer, Jani Lane is Dead. http://newsfeed.time.com/...ies-at-47/
The glam-band wailer will be remembered for his wild hair and wilder personality. Lane, who provided lead vocals/screams for glam rock band Warrant, was found dead in a California hotel room Thursday evening. According to TMZ, Lane's body was discovered "unresponsive" at the Comfort Inn hotel in Woodland Hills, Calif., around 5:30 p.m. No cause of death was immediately released, but law enforcement officials told the Los Angeles Times that alcohol and prescription drugs were found near Lane's body in the motel room. As frontman of Warrant in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, Lane penned the group's biggest hit, “Cherry Pie,” released in 1990. He joined the hair-metal band in 1986 and was infamous for his revolving-door attitude in fronting the band: he left in 1993, rejoined in 1994, and quit again in 2004. But his success with Warrant is indisputable. Lane wrote five top 40 hits for the band, whose albums notched up sales of more than 8 million albums. I met him twice. The first time he was at a pool bar in Cedar Rapids, Iowa having a drink with CC DeVille. This was right before Cherry Pie hit. I was 12 yrs old (yes my mom's parenting skills were questionable). He was nice and signed an autograph. Actually meeting him and CC was one of the first "I carried a watermelon" moments I had in my life. I wanted to say something so bad but only could come up with "You guys are so cute!". Stupid, stupid, stupid! He smiled sheepishly at me and I went on my dorky way.
I met him again about 9 months later, right after Cherry Pie broke. He was standing outside of the concert arena the day of the concert. He was quite different He didn't seem to be enjoying success that much, very annoyed with the concert goers trying to talk to him. I tried to chalk it up to a bad day for him, even though at 13 yrs old I was disappointed.
I'm choosing to remember the first time I met him assuming that was the best of him.
