Carla Thomas just popped up, she'll be a good one. I wanted to know what happened to her after Wattstax. I saw her in the Only the Strong Survive and she looked as old as her father. sad

I'm surprised there hasn't been an UnSung or Behind The Music feature on these two artist.

allsmutaside said: Chic's reign was brief and they seem to be thrown in with the death of disco time frame, and disregarded to some extent because of that.

I couldn't tell you the name of either lead singer. They seem a little bit Unsung to me.

A major force of Chic was the production sound by Nile Rodgers and the late Bernard Edwards. After Chic's peak they both continued to produce a number of familiar and major artists in various genres. The lead singing females such as Norma Jean Wright, Alfa Anderson and Luci Martin are among some people indeed maybe less familiar. A few of those female singers have recently been exposing themselves as the "Ladies Of Chic" including bass player Euriel "Tinker" Barfield as contributor. The earlier mentioned productions for others did put the group defenitely on the historical map to be remembered. Singers such as Luther Vandross and Fonzi Thornton were involved on some of Chic's albums as well, and the vocal harmonies and arrangements were also recognisable in productions by the late Fred Jaques Petrus (BB&Q Band, Change, High Fashion, Peter Jaques Band, Zinc, etc). Its sad that Bernard Edwards and also drummer Tony Thompson have passed away. Nile has continued to tour often with various line-ups of the group. I couldn't believe how much people had come to a concert which i saw a few years back. They put on a tight show, and that has been paying off successfully with them performing and touring in recent years.

Who the hell is Alyson Williams?

Lil Richard is not unsung, he is a legend and his story has been told. A lot of the people you are listig are a bit too obscure even for Unsung and Unsung's emphasis is not on rap

I SO wanna see VANITY 6 and The Time on Unsung

The OP said pick who you'd like to see. I'm not interested in the popular acts, they can be read about anywhere, some have biographies in the library. So I listed the people I'd like to see. biggrin If they're only about acts that a lot of people know (aka ratings), then it's no different than Behind The Music. Most of the acts I listed are really "Unsung".

Luther Ingram! cloud9

If Loving You Is Wrong music

Man I get all warm and fuzzy inside when I see that scene from Wattstax with him singing and all those women sin the audience wooning. Its a sexy song even though its inappropriate. Infidelity!

Damn he was blind and diabetic when he died. Poor thing! sad Only 69 too. I'm not kidding, dude was 69. Funny how a sexy ass dude dies at aged 69. Tha's just weird. That's like Dolly Parton dying in Silicon Valley.

Tyrone Davis

Angela Bofill

Leon Ware

Roy Ayers (He's not quite "unsung" imo, but he needs some kind of special!)

Michael Henderson

That Frankie Lymon movie "Why Do Fools Fall In Love" was quite sad. I had no idea he sunk that deep into drugs and poverty. Larenz Tate did a good job of portraying him.

He'd be a great contender for UnSung and we could learn what really happened beteen him and the teenagers as the film kind of washed over that.

Larenz did his thang in that movie. Should've got him Oscar status. As for the movie, alot was inaccurate. But it was first-rate entertainment and melodrama.

Well, that's what's Unsung imo about. Artists who are not always familiar with a wider demographic of listeners. I think that the boundaries of choosing Unsung-artists shouldn't be limited too much. Who's to say if an artist is too obscure?... Some artists were popular at a certain time and i guess that not everyone is gonna be familiar with every single artist. There are too much time gaps between various generations who grew up with certain artists and genres. To get everyone satisfied is a hard job to do. Alyson Williams started as co-lead singer for the group High Fashion, a project by the late Fred Jaques Petrus, who's productions somewhat had a Chic influence, especially the harmonized vocal arrangements. Alyson continued as solo artist around the mid/late 80's on Def Jam and had some exposure with her single "Sleep Talk," and she appeared on various late 80's/early 90's recordings as background singer. She has been releasing solo work in recent years as well.

It appears some believe an artist or group who didn't crossover to Pop charts were "unsung". The Dazz Band, Slave, Chic, were not Unsung. I'm aware that TV1 can't necessarily do show after show about "obscure artist" but they could throw a bone in that direction once in a while.

I would say the Dazz Band and Slave are Unsung. The Dazz Band even more so. Not many

people know about the Dazz Band outside of Let It Whip and they aren't a band that had a long

list of top 20 hits. You could probably count them on one hand. Slave probably had a few more recognizable hits but were still a band that

fell way under the radar when you compare them to the EWF's, Kool & The Gang, Parliament, and

the Ohio Players and the former 2 had Unsung episodes. Oh and guess what i've been

jamming to all day TD3. Concept! wink

OMFG. I would watch the hell out of a Sister Sledge Unsung.

My vote would also go to Neneh Cherry, although she might not be well known enough to American audiences. I mean, the woman's career got stalled by Lyme disease -- that fact would be perfect for a promo of the show.

DJ Screw (and the whole Houston rap scene in the 90s) would be nice Timmy. We're much more than Slim Thug, Paul Wall and Chamillionaire. We got the whole Screwed Up Click than K-Rino, Big Mello, Klondike Kat, Ganksta-Nip, Street Military, PSK-13, Point Blank, ect.

It seems to me that some people are only interested in gossip and "dirt". If there is none, then the program is boring to them. That's why I like the documentaries and bios on PBS. They're more focused on the music. Independent Lens is good.
