the only real classic for me on HIStory is stranger in moscow al the rest is okay, only you are not alone i cant stand.

Shhh, MBGITW, I hate u, Billy Jack Bitch go hard though, so gotta go with Gold Experience.

TGE is no way near as good as the fans on the org make it out to be and passed by pretty much everyone except hardcore fanatics back in 95. The album is padded out with filler like Now, We March, 319 and P Control, the title track is a cringe-inducing wannabe Purple Rain for retarded ten year olds and the seagues are annoying as fuck.

HIStory on the contary contained MJ's most honest songwriting and spawned some of his biggest hits. There's nothing on TGE which holds a candle to Stranger In Moscow, TDCAU, Earth Song, Tabloid Junkie etc.

Though I enjoy listening to TGE (so many great songs on there) I have to go with History. Stranger in Moscow just does something to me that I cannot relate in words. BUT, TGE gets played more often in my household (strange but true).

"The Gold Experience" wins this on the strength of "Billie Jack Bitch", alone. Stuff like "Eye Hate U" and "Shh" is just icing on the cake.

Which isn't to say "Dangerous" doesn't have good shit on it; I love "Why You Wanna Trip on Me"; "She Drives Me Wild"; "Remember the Time" and "Who Is It".

Editing to add that - fuck, I just realized you said "HIStory", and not "Dangerous". Okay, fuck it. TGE wins by a country mile, most of the new stuff on "HIStory" is underwhelming, barring stuff like "Stranger in Moscow" which is arguably one of the best solo songs MJ has ever done, along with "Who Is It".

These threads are silly...but have to comment that Gold Experience is my fave Prince album of the 90s. Billy Jack Bitch kills me everytime I hear it...when it breaks down into the horns at the end...so out of left field but its still appealing (at least to me). I even love Now.

I was over MJ by the time history. I was a huge fan back in the 70s and 80s. Howver, don't think the later stuff holds a candle to Off the Wall, Thriller, Destiny, and Triumph.

I like HIStory a lot, but I LOVE TGE. Though they are 2 different types of albums...but yet both artists were trying to make a statement about "freedom". MJ's over his child molestation case and prince wanting to be free from WB.

I love both albums.

Well, at least here is some competition (unlike D+P and Dangerous) and as some one who owns (and likes... a lot) both albums I still have to go with HIStory!

Well, the general instrument of measurement for an album's Masterpiece-iosity tends to be the opinion of the fans, no?

If TGE is a masterpiece to me, it's a damn masterpiece.

But who's mincing words about masterpieces? I like HIStory. I think "Earth Song" and "Scream" are 2 of his best songs -ever-. I think "Stranger in Moscow" and "HIStory" are decent. "Come Together" is good, of course, and one we waited a long time to hear.

Do I think it's a masterpiece? Hell naw. But I bet you there's millions of people who disagree with me and I'm cool with that. "Money" is a fucking terrible song and so is "DS" - IMO!!

Well I tend not to agree because many fans judge personal favourites as masterpieces to the point where the word loses it's meaning. The Gold Experience is a GREAT album - but I don't think it's fair to call it a masterpiece. I think true masterpieces are the ones agree upon "universally" - eg, Sgt. Peppers, Thriller, Purple Rain, What's Going On, Nevermind, etc.

If TGE is a masterpiece to me, it's a damn masterpiece.

If it is to you, then sure.

I agree with you on DS but Money? Damn. I love that song. lol
