The Gold Experience sounds a little more rock based to me, but I think it's one of the better post-Purple Rain albums he came out with.
I still prefer HIStory though. A lot of the songs have their own identity imo. | |

You know what pisses me off most about The Gold Experience? The fact that you can't buy it anywhere apart from second hand now! Not enough people know it despite it having Prince's only UK number 1 and his last Top 10 hit.
HIStory too, while available isn't exactly an attractive purchase to the public being combined with that silly, pointless Greatest Hits - although it's the only MJ compilation that hasn't had the songs chopped and edited to shit. [Edited 8/10/11 22:46pm] | |

Nope. I was only comparing albums from the same released year. TGE & HIStory were both released in '95, that's why I compared the two [same with Dangerous & D&P. They both came out in '91]... History is probably my favourite Michael Jackson album but, come on, this is prince.org not michaeljackson.org, of course I think that The Gold Experience is the better album. | |

Hmmm. Interesting matchup.
The Gold Experience wins, with the only faults being the NPG operator segues in between. Also, P Control would have been a better B Side than the intro track to the album.
I bought HIStory the day it came out back in April of 1995. It was a solid new album from MJ loaded with some new classics, but the the title track is attrocious and "Come Together" disrupts the flow altogether.
He was angry, paranoid, and funky on the album, which was an interesting maturation for MJ. The gem on that album for me was "Smile".
Both were their best works of the past 15 years and also (IMO) the last true gems they released. "Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish." | |
