Disco was something popular among black people and lgbtqq people anyways before the craze and I'm sure after it. Maybe the r&b you are thinking of is the slowed down r&b of the 90's like what vainandy bitches about on this board, but she wasn't too far off from that demographic either in the very beginning of her career with her first album, which was like the r&b of that time. No one ever said she paved the way for r&b/urban artists though you never know with people like Lil Kim and Nikki Minaj Maybe you just want to believe there is no way black people can like Madonna or something, I went to Madonna's last tour with *gasp* a black friend and I can tell you first hand she's not a queen. In fact, I think it's only Americans who think Madonna is for gay people. She gets way more attention and airplay in Canada and I believe Europe.

I didn't deny her doing pop music, but her biggest contribution was to r&b. Even though I have argued that r&b and pop are actually quite similar I still think it's the disco/post-disco/dance-pop/rock factor that helped keep Madge's demographic way more expansive, among other things...

sorry, but b.s. madonna is successfull here since her first album. True blue was the best-seller album in 1986...and since early 90's when MTV Brasil launched here up until now every madonna video got 2 the top of the weekly MTV charts (even the awful AL flag version). I don't remember any JJ video that have cracked the top 10 at all. I use to watch her (JJ) videos on the show Top 10 USA. Evita Peron is from Argentina and has nothing 2 do with Brazil (or any other S.A. country), the biggest country and market by far in South America. I even subscribe 2 janet's site 2 bring the tour 2 brazil when they started that kinda contest...but I never set my hopes high.

I get a 'taste' for Madonna at times. Has never happened with Janet.
Every Janet album I've bought I've given away because I wasn't interested anymore.
Even the vaunted RN1814 ended up being given away.
