Please tell me what about this song is dated.

This is what I asked sans 'rant.' Would you please be so kind to answer the question already instead of avoiding it?

Whether or not you like to song, I really don't care. But calling something dated is less subjective and treading more objectivity imo. One can objectively say that the Bad album is dated due to the synths. Rhythm Nation is dated. It sounds like 90s r&b. A good portion of the Dangerous album is dated due to the New Jack Swing influences. Off The Wall is dated as well as the ones I stated earlier. It sounds dated. It sounds like old music even though I think it's still a really awesome album as well as the other ones I just mentioned. I just want to know why you think that song in particular sounds like the era in which it was released. That is all. Do you think you can do that without throwing me an unrelated insult this time?

You know what? If throwing me unrelated insults is what you have to do, then that is fine. Just as long as you answer the question.

This is third time I'm asking you this.

childhood is not dated. The only songs i feel are dated are D.S, Money, History, 2 Bad, Tabloid junkie, this time around. although I do love them. When I say dated and not in a good way, i basically mean a sound that is more appreciated during its time/era of release. Like i enjoy them, but enjoyed them more during the 90s, then i do now.

MJ has many songs that sound dated in a good way, like sounds of its time period, but its a sound that you can enjoy regardless of it sounding like it was created in the 80s.

Off Topic: this album actually made MJ sound sexy, now when i think about it, when he was cursing. At the time when i first heard him curse it upset me, I was so young and didn't curse myself, I really did not start cursing until a few years ago lol I was so prude, but i think it had to do with me being young. I even enjoy janet's sexual songs and can finally enjoy them. lol During her recent tour, i actually wanted janet to pull a guy on stage and wear her cat suit, I was so upset with the jeans and tank, I wanted to see that body. lol I paid good money....

So if the argument is that the sounds of the music have time stamps on them, I believe it's safe to say that the reason his music is classic is because of the melodies, harmonies, hooks, and vocals.

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME??????? AM I HEARING THIS CORRECTLY FROM TOTAL RIGHT NOW? lol lol

Little Susie PAWNS the ENTIRE VR album with the Euro Dutch inspired Production, the well written lyrical content of the song that was wriiten by MICHAEL HIMSELF like MAJORITY OF HISTORY WAS, the beginning to end of the song.. the well produced arrangement of it. There was nothing dated about it.. It was just a different style of genre.. it wasnt pop. That song was exactly I think was one of Michaels greatest risk acheivements that he was exactly successful with. He took this SAME approach with Stranger in Moscow which was another masterpiece Not everyone can crossover to singing that genre.

While History did have like 3 or 4 unnessary songs BESIDES that the entire album was epic.

lol lol lol

i can't agree with the bolded, if that were true, Lil Susie would have been released as a single and a fan favorite. That song is probably the least mentioned MJ song.

Lil susie would never beat out "I get so lonely" or "Got til its Gone". Noooo way. And we should do a public vote on that.

but again it boils down to opinion, you think lil susie is MJ's best work. I think it sounds like a song that belongs on a Tim Burton film/soundtrack. Like a dark lullaby lol

I dont think it is his BEST WORK.. It is definitly ONE of them though for the risk that was taken as well as the production. The ONLY arguement people here are making about VR which I am not disagreeing with is Janets overall subject matter and how it was different for her.

Michael had already covered a variety of personal and controversial subject matters before History but on History he dug further with experiementing with different genres, sounds, productions etc which was more inventive than VR.

Popularity and being radio friendly has NOTHING to do with what makes a great song. Little Susie was an innovative song. There are plenty of songs similiar to I Get Lonely as well as Got Till its Gone. There not to many big pop stars that are going to put a European dutch inspired song on their album that is all I am saying. Thats not saying those two songs are not good because they are but their not innovative either. They are two songs that was completely different FOR JANET because that was something SHE HAD NOT done as an artist.

There's nothing wrong with dated songs/music. It's just people who use it as a way to discredit something. Just like when someone uses the term 'overrated.' There are times when both are valid criticisms, but then there are times when people throw it out there in lieu of having a valid argument. A valid argument to which they can back up with supporting ideas rather than immature insults.

i never said there was anything wrong with a dated sounding song. I said there are some songs that sound dated in a good or bad way and i explain.

Im not trying to discredit those songs by saying they sound dated so that means they are not good. Im just saying the sound of them is something I enjoyed more during the 90s then i do now. But MJ has many songs that sound dated and i still enjoy them MORE then songs out right now.

This does NOT just apply to MJ, some music is dated in a good way and some in a bad way. Like there are plenty of songs that came out during the 80/90s were a hit, BUT are not liked anymore because people are over that sound. I remember when rappers use to sample old songs and play them back in a high pitch almost sounding like a mouse, and i used to love that, but now i can't stand it. I think when a new trend comes out its fresh and people like at first b/c its diff. but then after a while you really start to see it wasn't all that. And the few Good songs that came from that new trend actually will be liked years after that trend is gone.

overrated does not discredit anyone, it just says In my definition: a person who gets way to much praise for mediocre at best talent, OR someone who is all hype and little to no substance.

with all this being said, I would rather listen to Janet Jackson "You" then MJ "D.S." and both songs could be re-released on radio and I think You would win over D.S

If this was Janet VR vs MJ Dangerous. I choose Dangerous. lol this is probably the only time i choose a JJ album over MJ album.

but you were saying lil susie beats out the entire VR album. Which that statement alone is outrageous.

GOT TIL ITS GONE this song is AMAZING

YOU

WHAT ABOUT

I GET SO LONELY

GO DEEP

VELVET ROPE

so basically you are saying these songs I listed sound like shit compared to MJ's Tim burtons dark lullaby song??? lol

I know MJ did a "dutch inspired" song but that doesn't mean that song is great or that good because its different or dutch inspired. Its really just opinion actually. I don't think anyone is wrong or right in this thread. Like i said you just can't go wrong with either artist. which is why i love them both.

I'm backing it up with not just my opinion but with critics too. Fuck them? Why? Because they said Invincible is a mess? lol

Rolling stone would give a beatles album 5 stars even if it was completely silent the whole album

Thank you! I stopped reading Rolling Stone because I hate how they dick ride the Beatles.
