I'm not a Michael Jackson "fan." I don't even have all of 'Off The Wall', certainly not the album. I have tracks from hits collections that capture what I want of 'Off The Wall.' 'Off The Wall' is cool, but nothing great. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

I prefer HIStory, but I also prefer MJ to JJ in general, so that shouldn't really be shocking. I own both albums and used to love both, but TVR is quite forgettable for me. I love Got 'Til It's Gone, Go Deep, Together Again, Everytime and Rope Burn on The Velvet Rope, but I still go with HIStory. Granted, half the songs on HIStory rank as some of MJ's worst for me (This Time Around, 2 Bad, Tabloid Junkie), but it's also got 3 absolute classics (They Don't Care About Us, Stranger In Moscow, Earth Song), which beats out anything on Velvet Rope.
Ctritics ratings and rankings never mean anything to me, by the way. Not even when praising something I like, or criticizing something I don't.

Hell, LaToya wants to know why "Starting Over" isn't part of the poll. From what was said, it's her most personal album "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

why the fuck are you responding to my posts???? Don't bring into your petty argument with Unhollyalliance.
You can't even have a discussion with anyone without resorting to personal insults, or trying to be condescending towards others whose opinions differ. You don't know every fucking thing, its just OPINIONS.

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME??????? AM I HEARING THIS CORRECTLY FROM TOTAL RIGHT NOW?
Little Susie PAWNS the ENTIRE VR album with the Euro Dutch inspired Production, the well written lyrical content of the song that was wriiten by MICHAEL HIMSELF like MAJORITY OF HISTORY WAS, the beginning to end of the song.. the well produced arrangement of it. There was nothing dated about it.. It was just a different style of genre.. it wasnt pop. That song was exactly I think was one of Michaels greatest risk acheivements that he was exactly successful with. He took this SAME approach with Stranger in Moscow which was another masterpiece Not everyone can crossover to singing that genre.
While History did have like 3 or 4 unnessary songs BESIDES that the entire album was epic.

wow this thread is heated...why is it so important that people agree with your opinion?
Anyway, my two cents: HIStory is one of my favorite MJ albums, but not the top. (Bad and Dangerous are, to me, better) For me, this album is too long, with songs like Childhood (insipid) HIStory (a hot mess, has no organic flow, feels like three songs squished awkwardly together...but I do LOVE the chorus), Come Together (unneccesary), and D.S. (which starts good and then gets real repetetive REAL fast). It's the insane highs on the album (especially the first five tracks, which are all STELLAR) that make it so intriguing and entertaining. That being said, while as an ALBUM it is not my favorite, it does have two of my fave MJ songs...They Don't Care About Us and Earth Song.
On to Velvet Rope. Again, not my favorite Janet album (I prefer janet. and Discipline), but still a stellar work. As has been said, it definitely has a very cohesive feel, but I do think that, like HIStory, it is too long. Did we need Every Time, Tonight's the Night, Anything, AND Special to be on this album (all saccharine ballads lumped together)? Pick any one of them to keep, throw the rest out, and end the album on Rope Burn, and it would have been perfect. But it wouldn't be a Janet album without too many ballads on it.
So which one do I prefer? Really, I think they're pretty even. Both stellar albums that are a little too overstuffed for their own good, with amazing highs and also some pretty low lows. Which one edges the other out seems to shift depending on my mood, but right now I'd probably have to go with The Velvet Rope.

i can't agree with the bolded, if that were true, Lil Susie would have been released as a single and a fan favorite. That song is probably the least mentioned MJ song.
Lil susie would never beat out "I get so lonely" or "Got til its Gone". Noooo way. And we should do a public vote on that.
but again it boils down to opinion, you think lil susie is MJ's best work. I think it sounds like a song that belongs on a Tim Burton film/soundtrack. Like a dark lullaby

^^^ PREACH IT, Bro! Yeah, she NEEDED to go off like that in Poetic Justice (but she saved it for nearly 30 years)! I think a LOT of people want to go off like that these days (including me! LOL). But I will live vicariously through Janet! Loved it at her recent concerts when they showed this clip and the audience stood up and cheered like CRAAAZY! I'm the Hamster Girl BITCH! Good ol' Rick....
I respect Michael for doing the different genre songs on HIStory. Way before I joined fansites, I knew a girl also a big fan like me, and Little Susie was her favourite off HIStory and she'd sing it a lot though she thought it was sad too.
And I know so many people who love Stranger in Moscow, even before the death and it didn't even chart here. It has an ambient feel to it, and I wanted to hear more of that style from him

HIStory includes those 5 new songs (the singles) that I like a lot.
Scream They Don't Care... Earth Song You Are Not Alone Stranger In Moscow
I dislikes the rest on the "New songs" CD2.
And I really dislikes Janet Jackson as well. All her music.
Sorry...

This is what I asked sans 'rant.' Would you please be so kind to answer the question already instead of avoiding it?
Whether or not you like to song, I really don't care. But calling something dated is less subjective and treading more objectivity imo. One can objectively say that the Bad album is dated due to the synths. Rhythm Nation is dated. It sounds like 90s r&b. A good portion of the Dangerous album is dated due to the New Jack Swing influences. Off The Wall is dated as well as the ones I stated earlier. It sounds dated. It sounds like old music even though I think it's still a really awesome album as well as the other ones I just mentioned. I just want to know why you think that song in particular sounds like the era in which it was released. That is all. Do you think you can do that without throwing me an unrelated insult this time?
You know what? If throwing me unrelated insults is what you have to do, then that is fine. Just as long as you answer the question.
This is third time I'm asking you this.
