Best thing about this video is her glowing skin...gosh it could be a skin care advertisment...just gorgeous. The song is not one of my fav's from the album...too much like Irreplaceable like others have said..I do have about 5 tracks on the album that I love...would be nice if they had some awesome videos to match.

Kind of like how Trey Wrongs...*cough*...I mean Songz, tries hard to pass himself off as a singer? I don't know about that. Beyonce may be a little over exposed and that might be part of her problem, but she does have talent.

That does not change the fact that she is STILL overrated.
She is a descent singer and can put on a show at times. However, she is not a great dancer, her catalogue is horrible as well as her acting. She hasnt changed or done anything in music to be warranted with the accolades she has received so yes she is overrated.

Like I said, if you are going to single her out you had better include those like the artist that I mentioned previously. He as well as Chris Brown, are the perfect examples of how the industry has choosen imagine or talent. While she has never claimed to be "greatest singer on the planet", she can indeed carry somewhat of a tune and her band is tight. I can't say that for the other 99.5% of those wannabe singers, out there.

The only thing I will agree with you on is that she is a horrible actress.
But saying she can't dance. Really? Thats just ignorance
Saying she has a horrible catalogue? Most singers would kill to have classics like Crazy in Love and Irreplaceable in their catalogue! [Edited 7/11/11 10:53am] 2012: The Queen Returns

I agree, MOST pop acts out today are overrated and have no talent. Just because Beyonce can sing does not mean that ALL her music is good and that she is not overrated. No artist out today gets as much accolades and awards as she and she is very undeserving. I find artists like Adele to be far more talented and make much BETTER music. I dont care how good you sing, if the music is bad then it is just bad...

I'm not a Bey stan, I only own one of her albums. I just get annoyed with elitism. 2012: The Queen Returns

There is no elitism just because everyone is not going to feed into the media hype and overration of this woman. It is way out of hand now. Sure Beyonce is a good singer even though I personally dont care for her voice nor her horrible generic pop music. But to honestly sit here and suggest Beyonce is a good dancer?
If Beyonce is a good dancer than what makes Janet Jackson?
Most of what Beyonce does is not straight choregraphy, just rehearsed movements and crowd interaction. If anything she is an average best dancer. She is not a natural born dancer. Her backup dancers even dance better than her. She doesnt stand out.
I never denied Beyonce didnt have talent ONLY stating that she has not done anything groundbreaking, innovative nor is she original as some critics presents her to be which IS a true [Edited 7/11/11 11:34am]

You are smoking way to much crack if you think Single Ladies was groundbreaking to music videos and lead to a Renaissance? WTF. So I guess you never heard of a man named MICHAEL JACKSON that presented all those concepts and ideas to music videos which is a template today COPIED and MODELED from TODAYS artists. There was NOTHING innovative about Single Ladies. From the copied chorgraphy as well as the music video. That is not the point, Beyonce is not a natural dancer. She can not dance alone on a stage by herself without no gimmicks, lights, etc like someone like Janet Jackson who was obviously gifted with that talent.

Pffft , please tell me when I ever said anything about talent? I think she's a good dancer and she can sing like a moffo.. I wasn't talking about her talent because she has a lot of it. I'm saying that she tries too hard to be sexy all the damn time yet there's no real interesting personality in her work. Yes, she may look 'sexy' but that is it. I find no sincerity or emotion in anything that she does.
And please don't compare her to other artists today because I know they all suck, I'm talking about her alone.

Renaissance = Rebirth In the early 00s music videos were becoming increasingly irrelevant with fewer mediums to get them across. Single Ladies brought choreography back into music videos in a big way and brought music videos back into pop culture in a big way now that they could easily be watched on youtube.

Lady Gaga also helped re-inforce how videos are important to the image of the artist again...there have been good videos in the past, but they were not getting any recognition. Single Ladies (even though the choreography was inspired ...by the samedirector and choreographer) did help bring videos back into importance. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Youtube allowed music videos a new medium to get music videos out and seen. Gaga and Bey used that medium to make videos relevant again. The fact that their is now anticipation for music videos to come out is pretty different than 6 years ago but not that different from 25 years ago. 2012: The Queen Returns

Music Videos STILL are irrelevant. Nobody pays attention to music videos the only reason why that particular music video was popular was because its Beyonce. Their have been plenty of music videos before that video that came out that have been copied and parody. It was just a very popular music video AT THE TIME. HOWEVER, their was nothing innovative or groundbreaking about the video or the ridiculous video itself. Besides her fans, their is no BIG HUGE prime time live anticipation for any of her music videos really. I have gave credit where it is due but you give Beyonce WAY to much credit. She is a talented singer but any other accolades she does not deserve. ALL of those things were already innovated by Mr. Jackson because of HER POPULARITY it received international success but the music video itself is irrevelant to the music video medium. Its no suprise that women would say this. You keep believing that if it gets you through the day. That said, she sings some of the worst, most self-absorbed songs in pop music and its a huge turn-off. That plays a big part in her appeal or lack thereof. Only weak dudes want to sit up and listen to a pretty chick berate them or whine, bitch and moan about men 24/7. That kind of snide negativity is a Jigga can keep her.

It would have been a pretty song if she didn't swear in it and sang it instead of screaming it. It annoys me that I have family older than me that love the song while I can't stand it anymore and got tired of it quick.

generally, i don't want to hear 'common' venacular in my music. 'you showed your ass'? 'it sucks to be you'? it's not so much a song as having to overhear the argument of a couple seated at the table next to yours while you're trying to eat dinner. [Edited 7/11/11 15:34pm]

Hmm, what's that supposed to mean? I can't have an opinion of her that's not totally positive without being jealous or whatever you think I am?
I think she has no real personality in her work, her emotions are fake. Someone like Sade can show her how it's done, and she doesn't even try
I am totally comfortable getting through the day without having to look down on other people. I am content, I am seventeen years old for God's sake I have nothing to be jealous of, she's a grown ass woman all I did was state an opinion. You totally oversimplified women in stating that, it was a very stupid thing to say. What, a girl can't think of her that way without having a stupid reason for it? Get outta here
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I said nothing of jealousy. The that thought had not even occured to me. Nobody is trying to take your little opinion away from you, so no need to be so overly defensive of it. I just meant that a lot of times when it comes to women, men and women will disagree on who is sexy. To us, the talent and abilities are seperate from whether or not we'd sleep with her. Thats the way it is with MOST guys. Even your man would probably do her, he just probably would never say that in front of you. "Nah honey, Beyonce ain't sexy with them tight ass outfits she be wearin', showing off her tits and ass and long legs and stuff." "Nope." "That's nasty." "I wouldn't bend her over the back of a chair the first chance I got if she let me." "Nope." "I wouldn't do that." So, I disagree with both of you - YES, she is sexy - maybe not to you personally, but to a lot of people, she most definitely is. Nobody is worried about how Adele or Angie Stone is looking (and I think they are both GREAT singers, so that's not a shot at either of them). My point is that looks play a part in the game of sexiness and an unattractive woman couldn't sell "sexiness" on a massive scale in the way than an attractive woman could. Most of her sexiness is in her physical appearance. Personally, I find her personality a big ass turn off. Still, I'm not going to deny that she has sex appeal. The problem with her (as with most pop artists) is that the artists these days just serve as promoters for record companies ideas', interests and directives - which are almost always leading to the consumer spending money with them in some way. When Beyonce is singing, I envision Ashley Newton, president of Columbia Records voicing through her. So essentially, after writing teams come up with her songs, image teams come up with her various looks and PR firms come up with her artist direction and promotion, you are basically listening to [img:$uid]http://images1.variety.com/graphics/photos/_mugn/newton_ashley.jpg[/img:$uid] in a Beyoncé mask. Hence all of the product promotion that goes on in the music industry these days.

It wasn't the "it's no surprise that women would say this" that really ticked me off, it was the "whatever gets you through the day." How am I supposed to respond? I thought you totally misinterpreted what I was trying to say, because usually when someone says something like that that, it implies something like jealousy and then your comment comes off as totally arrogant and you still do .
I am not overly defensive, I calmly tried to explain myself and it took one minute to do that.
Also, I never said anything about talent. She is very talented, my issue is that she lacks emotion and personality and that's what I'm talking about. She tries to hard to come off as emotional but she screams and it gets so annoying to me.
That doesn't mean she's not gorgeous. She is absolutely stunning and I have no problem with the lingerie I just think it's unnecessary, she doesn't need it. I also have no problem if a significant other wanted her she is hot, if I was a guy I'd want her too if she didn't talk goddammnittt.
