That cover is an eyegasm.
And "La Isla Bonita", no contest. I still listen to that song from time to time. "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

My favorites from that era in terms of songs were "Papa Don't Preach" and "La Isla Bonita".
The videos were all great but "Open Your Heart" was my favorite.

Always thought this was an important album for Madonna. First time you hear a more mature sound.
"Open your heart" was one of the first song i bought (the intro of the remix is also very cool), "Papa don't preach" still rocks, it's a real classic.
Actually, I started to appreciate "White heat" just a few months ago. Love it.
But it's not a masterpiece like "Like a prayer", too many song I don't like: "Love makes...", "Where's the party" and I never liked "La isla bonita"

I think this is the album that made her an international star, not Like A Virgin

Yes, Like A Virgin made her famous, this album made her a superstar. [Edited 7/2/11 5:22am]

"Live to Tell" was probably her breakthrough as a "mature" artist. Still love it to this day. The singles are all great, but too much filler makes this easily her worst album of the '80s. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

this. I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

This album is when I started to pay attention to Madonna. It didn't turn me into a diehard fan,but I really liked the maturity of the singles "Papa Don't Preach" and "Live To Tell".I began to think "she's so much more than Holiday and Like A Virgin".
It was the next album that sealed the deal for me

I think "Papa Don't Preach" is her second classic video ("Material Girl" was the first)

Ooh, ooh!
*claps happily*
I have to go listen to that now, I'm all tweaking and shit LOL. "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

The most dated of her 80s albums (sonically) but still a superior album within the dance-pop genre
5 singles that could conquer the world (actually, that's what they did, lol) and other underrated album tracks (White Heat, Where's the Party). The intro of Papa is still PURE class and that bassline still funks like mad...
the videos of Open Your Heart and La Isla Bonita are still classics
this is possibly my fourth fav Madonna album...

According to wiki it was the worlds top selling album of 1986 over 24 million sold. Great pop album but then I love '80s Madonna.

I heard on a Madonna forum years ago from a fan that in their yearbook back then, they called True Blue a flop for selling 1 million less than Like a Virgin in the US, blasphemy!
This is the earliest Madonna era I remember when I was 3 years old that made me into a fan. Papa Don't Preach was the song I loved and I have memories of my cousin dancing to it and the tape when I visited, and also discovered Madonna videos from the eras before it that I had on tape. I knew Live To Tell as well and liked her dress, but I didn't appreciate slow Madonna yet, I liked fast Madonna songs. I had it on cassette for years though not at the time though I did get the Like a Virgin album and a poster for my room, but I didn't own it on CD until the remasters were released. Best tracks are:

It was the next album that sealed the deal for me I hated the 'Like A Virgin' era. I really thought she was going to be a one hit album wonder. I really liked the True Blue album that's when I became a diehard fan.I liked the maturity of her sound and her look. My favorite singles were Papa Don't Preach, La Isla Bonita, and Open Your Heart. I also should mention Where's the Party(wish there was a video)and True Blue which was a throwback to 50s early 60s girl groups.

This is the Madonna album from her early career i like the most, to me Madonna really came out as an artistic force to reckon with when she did Like A Prayer.
I don't really care for Like A Virgin.. Material Girl is eh... Like A Virgin the song is overrated, Stay is my favorite song on the album.
Her debut was good with lots of filler though, True Blue to me was her really coming into her own. of course Live To Tell is one of her greatest singles, White Heat is a fantastic song it could have been a good video i think
Papa Don't Preach and it's orchestral intro and outro is fantastic Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

I also like to believe Who's That Girl and Spotlight were outtakes that were used later on, I can't get enough of those songs.

I'm listening to it right now. The remastered version. Max volume. Oh my god THIS sound gorgeous

"Spotlight" certainly is an outtake from this album.I think it should have appeared on the album instead of "Jimmy,Jimmy" which nobody likes, lol.
