What is her backstory? "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries." | |

She was a childhood prodigy and was recognised at a young age of being one of the most promising cellists of her generation. She rose to international prominence in her early 20s and married Daniel Barenboim in 1967 (he's still the Music Director of the Berlin State Opera). She was then diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1973 when she was 27 and never played again. She died aged 42. She's arguably the greatest musician Britain has produced. Yo Yo Ma plays one of her Stradivarius cellos now.
She's subject of controversial film Hilary and Jackie, starring Rachel Griffiths and Emily Watson. It was based on her sister Hilarys book A Genius in the Family where she reveals that Jacqueline asked to sleep with her husband and she let her. Pissed alot of people off as it was seen as desecrating her memory after her death.
I find her compelling because she was obviously incredibly natural and free as well as stunningly skillful and passionate.
