Aretha deserves her spot.

Marvin Gaye should have been higher on the list! TOP 5 if you ask me. James Brown as well. What the hell

And Beyonce top 10? Bullshit.

What was the criteria for the list btw I wonder? It says powerful afterall, not best, but I don't understand how they compiled this at all. Beyonce should not be in the top 10. These people must be smoking.

I don't get it either. Sometimes I think by powerful, with these lists, they mean influence. idk

Rihanna isn't an R&B artist at all. Just because you're black doesn't make you Rhythm & Blues. Same thing with Will Smith. Um...since when was he a singer?

And where's Mariah?

Kind of bullshit is this.

Do they even know what "powerfull" means? If they do, they'd know JB would top this list.

confused

Is this a joke?

Why is Lauryn Hill, D' Angelo, Rihanna, Timbaland, P Diddy and Will Smith on the list?
Why is Aaliyah, Teena Marie, Maxwell, Ashford and Simpson, MJB, Beyonce and Usher so high on the list?
Why is Donny Hathaway, R. Kelly, Stevie Wonder, JAMES BROWN and Sam Cooke so low?

Where are The Temptations?

This list is stupid.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Janet Jackson ahead of Sam Cooke?

No one saw anything wrong with that?!

I can't even begin to comprehend what they used as criteria for the list.

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

This list is bullsh*t. However, I like the fact that they recognized Marvin Gaye was so damn bad that he had to be listed twice biggrin

FYI - Marvin would be #1 on my list.

Anway, they should have made a list of most influential R&B artists of all time, but they probably would have screwed that list up, too.

I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

This list is a complete joke. Period. Way too many flaws in the positions and way too many "greater" folks still overlooked. I think I can make a list of people who deserves to quickly be omitted. But this really doesn't surprise me one bit. Shame!

Are my eyes deceiving me? What the hell is Mary J Blige doing at #3? Beyonce at # 6? Maxwell at #9? Lauryn Hill at #10? Rhianna at #11?

Essence is a Black women magazine, and if these were Black women who put this list together, as a Black man, I'm both scared and mad as hell because this is ignorance at it's finest.
