She looked so hot on the album cover in that black mini. Some lucky guy was all over that.

This song gives me chills......she tore this song up! "A Man Can't Ride Your Back Unless It's Bent" MLK 4/3/68

Wow, thanks. You just brought back memories with that song. I've always loved that song.

love this song. the vocal performance is amazing.
i've actually been thinking about this song a lot lately. that era had a lot of great singers on some smooth tracks, you know?

Lisa sang and helped with some of the vocal arrangements on Bobby McFerrin's 2010 album Vocabularies. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I remember it like it was yesterday. Good times, good times... I also enjoyed the album. Her cover of "Wildflower" was nice, as was the single remix of "Save Me." "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

One of the best vocal showcases of the '90s. I'd love to have seen her do more solo stuff. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

this was my shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!!! I enjoyed the whole album. It's one of those "had on tape gotta get on cd" ones. Thanks for the reminder.

Anyone know why there's Japanese in the beginning of the song? Is it kinda like when Lady Gaga just busts out with some random French in the middle of a song?

Nothing new. There's French in The Beatles' Michelle and Labelle's Lady Marmalade. Around the same time as Lisa's song, there was I Adore Mi Amor by CMB which had some Spanish lyrics. There was also Gerardo who had several songs in "Spanglish". You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Aww I loved Lisa!!! I read somewhere that prior to her music career she was a housewife. Anybody else hear this? I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

She was a prolific backing vocalist for the likes of Luther , Chaka Khan and Teddy Pendergrass and many others before deciding to pursue a solo career.

Yeah...but Lady Marmalade took place New Orleans and the CMB had a Spanish phrase right in the title...

She also recorded a club song under the name Xena in 1985 called "The Upside"

I remembered when she sang with Luther and when she made the solo debut, I was like "GIRL'S MOVING UP!" But I guess she felt better being a session singer than being in front. Least she got a Grammy out of it...which she had to share lmao

Lisa is the duet partner on this track, but she's not in the video. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You gotta know where to look. Some are signed to indie labels, others are languishing in obscurity and being ignored by corporate radio formats.

Homegirl sung that song like Ike Turner was standing behind her with his shoe WAITING for her to mess up...love it and always have! surviving on the thought of loving you, it's just like the water
I ain't felt this way in years...

yeah, i know . . .
if someone doesn't need/want autotune or to prance about with all their "goodies" hanging out in lieu of talent, it seems they get no play.
lisa is awe-inspiring.

One of a few songs that gets me teary-eyed pretty much every time I listen to it just because of Lisa's voice. I'm floored by the backup singers in this clip...Brenda Russell, Bobby Caldwell, and Phil Perry...wow! You can see them a little bit. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!
"It's just my imagination, once again running away with me."
