Jill Scott's "The Light Of The Sun"

I just want to hear some other opinions on it. Musically, I like it...but lyrically...some of it sounds very juvenile. I had the impression she was well versed, deep, romantic and eloquent. But this cd leaves me wanting more stuff like "Words & Sounds Vol. 1", which to me, was an instant classic! For those of U that heard or have it...cheers or jeers?

If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!

I like it. I think it sounds very honest. She's singing about the break up of her marriage and what cames after that. Sometimes just stating feeling plain and simple hits home.

I think this is the best thing, since her debut. To me, everything that she released after her debut, was just dull and boring.

Yeah, I feel what the OP's sayin here.

The one thing I've LOVED most about Jilly is her consistent "artistic clarity". Makes very clear statements about complex emotions & life experience.....but with (depending on the subject matter) poetic grace / bombast.

That said, her debut is a rare one of a kind diamond. I've said before, I felt "sorry for her" upon my first listen to "Vol. 1". WHO could repeat that? How do you match a debut THAT strong? It's just on another level, that album. She'll never touch that standard again (except in snippets).

This new one reflects her life (as true artists are inclined to do) and clearly, Jill has really been through it emotionally in the recent past. This album is packed with raw emotion & deep ruminations. Does it "float" like the first one? No.....but it IS loaded with intelligence & honesty about some difficult relationship terrain.

Loved a couple tracks, "liked" a couple, appreciated the intention /sentiment on ALL of them....and I'll work on forgiving her for her first (honestly) awful track ever, "All Cried Out (Redux)".

It's cheers for me. Some people i know say they either like it or not. Mostly its been a positive for Jill Scott. I can't wait to hear some of the new stuff LIVE because she will be here in St. Louis, MO Aug 4th and i am there front row basking in all her glory. My key cuts are as follows:

Le BOOM Vent Suite

So Gone(What My Mind Says) feat Paul Wall **I have to admit when i saw the title and who was on it i was like NO WAY but its one of the strongest songs here and with Paul Wall it works PERFECTLY!!

Hear My Call

Womanifesto

So In Love feat Anthony Hamilton

Some Other Time

Bonus cuts are great.
