Can You Not get Your Friend's Into Some Artists?

smh, i realize everyone has different tastes but i can not get some people into music cause they think it's ''to boring'' cause it's not upbeat

It is impossible to get some people i know into Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, U2, Ray Charles cause it is not upbeat or make's you want to dance. I know everyone has there own taste but i find it insane when they say it's boring... especially if someone appreciates good lyrics but won't give any of there songs one listen.

I myself an open to EVERY genre and i think it's healthy to be open minded to all kinds of music, if i listened to one type of music all day i would die lol

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

All music is shit music and no music is real- gunsnhalen

Yeah. I've tried to get people into "Little Dragon" but it doesn't really work.

A former best friend of mine can't get into Michael or Janet, but loves Madonna and likes Elvis. It makes no sense to me, cause the first three are my all time favourites. I had taken her with me to see Janet perform and played Discipine in the car, but halfway through, she wanted it off. I only played some Michael around her and she tried listening to the Essential Collection and couldn't get into it and gave it to me instead since I hadn't bought it cause of already having those songs, and she did not understand why her coworkers had his DVD on repeat at work and was being a little insensitive about it when asking me.

My other friend likes Michael, but when Who Is It was playing, she turned it off after the chorus and skipped the track, I don't understand how no one could love that song, I know so many people, fans and casual fans that are obsessed with that song.

I'm all about "Feather" - that's actually my favorite song, period.

I love "Twice" too, and "Test" is cool. I remember I played "Test" for my mom once and she liked it, she started dancing lol .

Waste of time & energy.

Here's a thing that ROYALLY pissed me off though lol Last year, I tried to get my cousin into Prince' music(given that she's a funk enthusiast) and played "Lets Work", nope, didn't see the big deal. Ok, fair enough.

Couple of months ago, she told me "Did you know that Prince has a kick ass of a song called 'Lets Work'? excited "

Me: "Uh yeah, I played it for you" confuse lol

Her: "No you didn't. My co-worker played it for me for the first time today. You on the other hand tried to play the Beatles ripped off shit" bored2 - she meant Around The World In A Day

Me: sigh "If you say so" wall

I have a friend who has a very limited taste in music.

I don't try to convert anybody, but I have tried to expose her to things that she wouldn't otherwise listen to. I like a wide variety of music.

I took her to her first Prince concert on February 7th, which was part of a deal- if I went to see Kem with her, she'd try Prince. Well, she had a BALL! boogie

This past Saturday, I had my iTunes on shuffle. She announced that I could play anything except the Beatles or Jimi. (Jimi?! pout)

She also complained when Tears for Fears, Depeche Mode, and Cher shuffled through.

When Luther came on, she said, "Finally! You're playing real music!" neutral

I love her like a sister, but... she's trapped in a box. sigh

"Love Hurts.
Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

-Cher, "Woman's World"

You have a choice.....

(a) Abandon her and deny all knowledge of her existence.

or

(b) Feed her to the pigs.

Actually, in my case, it's the opposite

I try to not get some people into some artists/genres...because they're unworthy...

Not only funk and R&B, but also Metal. Some people just tell me "oh yeah, black music, I dig that, Beyoncé, Jay -Z, Black Eyed Peas", or Metal "oh yeah, metal, it's cool, Creed, Nickelback, Korn, Slipknot, cool".

then I force them to hear some real funk & metal and I just shut their damn mouths. In other words, sticking some nasty Parliament and Slayer up the lame asses of those non-funk/non-metal dudes is just too much for them...

I had to muster all the strength and patience in order not to strangle her then & there lol I could never understand how a person who virtually worships the grounds that Bernie Worrell & Junie Morrison walk on don't see the big deal in Prince' music.

Seriously though, she tried to hip me into Bob Dylan for the longest to no vail too, so she might feel frustrated with me too. The only thing that bugged the hell outta me though was when she said she didn't hear "Lets Work" from me, I was ready to go to war over this shit, I swear.

I don't know your history of "funk worship" my dear Miss Tina. But my cousin is actually a developing bassist, she studied those Bootsy lines and Junie/Bernie's moog lines to the tee, no WAY you're gonna sit here & tell me Prince is "Las Vegas compared to the P-Funk tribe". C'mon now lol

I've made a few sampler CDs and have been able to get some folks into particular artists. Usually the best way to do it, at least from my experience, is if it's in a genre they already like.

For example, a friend of mine is into glam rock and new wave type stuff, but had never listened to Suede. I made an "intro" compilation and he absolutely loved it, and went out and bought all their albums.

But usually it's really hard to get anybody "into" an artist that you love, or at least that's been my experience. Alot of times I think some folks don't like to open up to what others are listening to.
