This easily could've been a big hit back in '64...
Oh how I love the That Thing You Do! film, its soundtrack, and most notably, this song by the fictional Diane Dane. It has all the elements of a classic pop 60s heartbreak standard.

I think this would've blew up on pop radio in 1964, if it was really released back then.
