Stephanie totally got in that ass with this one. Makes me forget about Peabo's and I can't even listen to his version anymore! shake lol

I second that emotion. She and Teddy took that song from Peabo just like Aretha took "Respect" from Otis.

I am doing backflips over this '20th Century Collection' announcement. However, if I had my way I would've closed the set with 1982's 'Tantalizingly Hot' instead of all the 12" mixes. Having all of Steph's Mtume/Lucas productions in one collection would've be ideal. But if Hip=O is saving it for the 'Casablanca Collection' that would be ultra-cool. All of these albums are classics to me and are looooooong overdue for a digital release. Now I can stop listening to my beloved vinyl rips. Thank you Hip-O Select for caring.

I agree, they should have skipped the 12" mixes and just included the 'Tantalizingly Hot' album as part of this set."Last Night" is one of her most powerful singles headbang

Imagine how history would shift for her had egos and private parts were checked ever so firmly at the door and didn't play a big role in this story and Stephanie Mills actually played Dorothy in the movie version of "The Wiz". Just imagine the possibilities.

That one career move would've made her a household name by now, but NOOOOOO Mr.Gordy, Lord of the Leprechauns and Madame Ross The Buck Toothed monster had to fuck it up for her,,,,and the rest of us who loved the musical.

right. some how they thought Ms. Ross as a woman in her 40s should play an adolescence.

Siince Universal (owner of Hip-o Select) controls all of Steph's work from her years on 20th Century Fox, Casablanca, MCA, Motown, and ABC-Paramount, it wouldn't have been an impossibility to throw 'Tantilizingly Hot' into the mix. Plus doing so would have made this forthcoming release a one-stop shop for all of Steph's Mtume/Lucas productions. It just seems like a no-brainer to me.

Right. They release artist compilations often with songs from different labels. While I'm happy to get this, these songs have already been issued on CD in the past. "Tantalizingly" and "Merciless" have never been issued on CD and few songs from these albums have appeared on her various compilations. I do know for a fact that someone wants to reissue those albums but politics are keeping it from happening.

Its not the Casablanca years... Its her years on 20th Century, hence the title.
