You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

None, it's the Beatles, innit. Let 'em be.

yuck.. 'Across The Universe' is my favorite Beatles song, but I don't like either of those covers.
The only Beatles cover that I ever felt was better than the original is Harry Nilsson's version of "Mother Nature's Son" ...
Not too different from the original, but Harry sings it much better than Paul did.

Yep, I knew it was only a matter of time before MJ got mentioned. His is my favorite cover of Come Together, but I still prefer the original.
And once again, can't stand that version of Across The Universe.

I loved Aretha's version of "Let It Be".
Ike & Tina got funky on "Come Together", same with Diana (solo) and The Supremes.

You gotta love Joe Cocker's version of "With A Little Help From My Friends".
And while this movie was the ultimate cheese fest, this was an underrated cover from that otherwise dreadul movie:

Do ya'll know a Jamaican band called The Easy Star All Stars?
They specialize in reproducing entire classic rock albums inna reggae stylee.
Their first was Dark Side of the Moon. Then they came back with Radiodread doing Radiohead covers. Next was Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Dub Band.
Here's a track you might enjoy but I suggest you go to youtube and listen to them all. Each cut is in a very different Jamaican flavor from ska to rock steady to dubwise and features a lot of famous Jamaican singers on different cuts.
Check it!

Here is some interesting reading. Though I strongly disagree with their lists, Spinner put together a list of the best and worst Beatles covers...
Best: http://www.spinner.com/20...es-covers/
Worst: http://www.spinner.com/20...es-covers/
Personally, I think they're too harsh on MJ's "Come Together" (It made the worst list). His is clearly the definitive cover (though as I said, I prefer the original), but because it's considered cool to hate MJ, he makes the worst list. [Edited 7/21/11 22:32pm]
