They're among the 1001 groups that I should be listening to but never have. That is a great song - I'm cool with listening to anything I want to now that I'm old enough not to care about other's opinions - but had an obvious problem that prevented it from being played on the radio. It gets a thumbs up, danke.

I'm sorry I missed this. MF is one of the greatest underrated rock bands on the planet. Any band that can open for Parliament AND Black Sabbath??!!??..That's saying something. MF was one of P's favorite bands when he was in high school.

MF should have been larger then they were. But they're stil touring the world and Joyce "Baby Jean" Kennedy is still fierce.

Anybody that opens for both Parliament and Black Sabbath gets my ultimate respect. clapping

one of the best moments at the o2 aftershows was prince covering their stuff. always i wonder if mary jb covering stuff was key in some of the covers he did, as about half the covers were songs she had done at one time

Funny, a thread with "the 'n' word" is getting more responses than black folks sanging the truth about black folks. evillol

Guess niggizz don't want us to sang rock and roll anymore. Is that how it is, ORG? razz

I hate to say it but today's society has made it cool to use the "N" word no matter what color a person is. But that subject is for a whole different thread.

I remember when Limp Bizkit was huge and the term "whigger" was thrown around a lot. That was a term that whites could use (sometimes around blacks) and not have to worry about getting their asses kicked.

I'm sure the group in that other thread will be successful over their controversy and it'll be water under the bridge to some hip hop fans. But I hope I'm wrong.

Timmy84 maybe you should have changed the title of the thread. wink

I love Mother's Finest!!! There are one of my all time favorite bands. Being from Georgia I have seen them numerous times. They are definitely underrated. I went to see Prince at MSG this past Jan 18th and had the pleasure of getting to see Mother's Finest at B.B. Kings the Sunday before. Here is an article from that show:

I almost expected to see Prince there. He missed a really good show.

Here is their site:http://mothersfinest.com/..._SITE.html

Sorry Timmy, I don't like the title of the song. If black folks want to sing the truth about black folks they can easily do that without using the "n" word in any form.

Considering this song was released in 1976 why is this thread here? There is no comment in the thread's opening post. I'm wondering "what's the point of this thread?

Why do many of T84's post seem to involve subtle overtones sardonicism. The many post seem like someone who enjoys dropping a negative stone in a pond, and standing back to see the ripple effect.

Regarding a thread T84 posted on 06/02, titled "Patti LaBelle sued for violent fight," many of T84's comments seemed obtuse in content and sardonic in nature. But, hey freedom of speech is just that. If I'm wrong about T84, I stand corrected and offer retraction for misinterpreting the posts.

I've learned over the years that there are some people who use deceptive social and political humor to create a notable polarization in popular opinions. (maybe a catalyst for having something to discuss at the dinner table, or over drinks at their favorite bar/pub to re-inforce their individual political/social/racial likes and dislikes)

Hopefully T84 does not follow this type of mindset. T84, maybe your just acting like the Cool Intelligent Analytical type of guy.

someone pointed this prince.org rule out to me:

We would't want this thread locked on a technicality, would we? cool

Thanks for the typo correction. Your correction serves to re-inforce my post's opening question. That being, "Considering this song was released in 1976 why is this (commentless) thread here?"

I have seen them live several times over the years because my best friend is a friend of the band. They are a really good live band and nice people too, I always enjoy their shows headbang. I once assisted my ex with a photo session, this is one of the pics:

Mother's Finest

bio-synopsis

Mother's Finest (1973) - Mother's Finest (1976) - Another Mother Further - Mother Factor - Live - Iron Age - One Mother To Another - Lookin' For Trouble - Wanna Play Your Game - Looks Could Kill - Subluxation - Black Radio Won't Play This Record - Meta-Funk'n-Physical ...and more

A post-Sly race- and gender-integrated funk-rock band, Mother's Finest is stylistically somewhere between Rufus and Funkadelic, though they never achieved anywhere near the cultural impact of either. To a certain extent, Mother's Finest fell into the "Apartheid-Oriented Radio" trap, in which any African-American rocker between Jimi Hendrix and Vernon Reid - leaving Prince out of the discussion for now - was unable to get mainstream media attention. So despite touring success (including an opening stint for The Who) and decent sales for their first two CBS albums, they veered into radio-ready R&B in 1978 and seemed unsteady about their direction for the next decade or two before refocusing on hard rock. They've kept the band together, more or less, and their 2003 record is among their best yet.

It's not exactly unfair that fellow outcasts Funkadelic have achieved latter-day veneration as psychedelic funk/rock pioneers while the Finest haven't - Funkadelic was far more innovative, unpredictable and influential, plus they flat-out wrote better songs - but taken on their own terms Mother's Finest has pleasures to offer. Lead vocals are traded between Joyce Kennedy (who recalls Tina Turner's mix of roughness and control) and Glenn Murdock, original rhythm section "Wyzard" and "B.B. Queen" kept an enviable pocket, and the band has written most of its own material.

Personnel: Joyce "Baby Jean" Kennedy and Glenn Murdock, vocals; Gary "Moses Mo" Moore, guitar; Jerry "Wizzard" Seay, bass; Mike Keck, keyboards; Barry "B.B. Queen" Borden, drums. Disbanded, circa 1983. Lineup by 1992 was Kennedy, Murdock and Seay plus John Hayes, guitar; Ace Baker (keys), Dion Derek, drums. By 2004, Moore had returned to replace Hayes, Kerry Denton had replaced Derek, and Johnetta "JJ" Johnson had joined on backing vocals.(read more at the source :http://www.warr.org/mothersfinest.html )

Great memories in sound.

Wow, sorry to see that Timmy84 is catching some undeserved flack. He's just a guy posting a song that he enjoys and that he thinks other folks might enjoy, some of you guys are taking this much, much too seriously. If you like the song listen to it and enjoy it, if not there are plenty of other threads that you may find more to your liking.
