Songs that moved Gay America

Perhaps there has been no greater cultural export from Gay culture than its music.

ABBA - Dancing Queen (1976)

Diana Ross - I'm Coming Out (1980)

Village People - Y.M.C.A

Sylvester - You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)

RuPaul - Supermodel

Village People - Macho man

I think the whole Disco era put Gay people on the forefront that was one of the reasons why there was Disco Sucks' rally.

I Feel Love by Donna Summer
The Boss by Diana Ross
Instant Replay by Dan Hartman

Music from the SalSoul Orchestra deserve a honorable mention

I know PRINCE is NOT gay but I think 'IF I WAS YOUR GIRLFRIND' is a perfect Anthem!

It moved me, because at that time I thought he is ...

Still think this song expresses the dilemma best when you fall in love with a Hetero.

I never understood why people would find anything gay about "IIWYG".

For me the song is really showing the dilemma of a straight relationship....a man wants to be in a relationship with his woman, on the same level as she is with her female friends. I don't find anything gay about that.

That may be what the song is about but Prince knew what he was doing when he made the song. A lot of folks don't listen to song lyrics very closely and the title alone is shock value. I know when I was holding the album in my hand in the record store and read the title before I even got it home and listened to it, the first thing I thought was...."I see this bitch has finally come out of the closet". lol

Yeah, but than, according to the songtitle he would have come out of the closet as a transsexual, not as gay....

on second thought, if he would have been with the same woman and he got a sexchange, they would have a gay relationship...oh my god, it's a gay anthem!!!! lol

No, it wouldn't be no transsexual stuff. We call each other bitch, whore, slut, hooker, bulldagger, tramp, etc. all the time. Plenty of us call each other "girl". I don't though because that sounds just too damn "gay", but plenty of us do. I have jokedly told a straight man before when he's said he couldn't find a girlfriend worth a damn that "I'd be his girlfriend". lol

This is all right, but has any other straight, male singer ever find the courage to switch genders, like Prince did in IIWYG? No, because they are so f***ing afraid to get misinterpreted ...

He wasnt at all at that time, he probably would be today.
