Colonel Hardgroove - bass & vocals (Public Enemy) Guest appearances included Snoop Dogg, Dr. Cornel West & Tavis Smiley. I don't have time for twittering and tweeting, so here's a setlist that was posted online from the following night in San Francisco... Thanks for sharing that event TheAudience ! Looks like you had a ball ! And Miss Darlene Ortiz is indeed a foxy lady.
I'm also spotting a sort of compact MP3-player by TASCAM ? ... oh man, for years now i've had a cd-recorder by TASCAM (CD-RW 700) and which still works solid like a rock. You can tell it's been fabricated for the professional market.
And don't get me started about that gear below ... wow, a Hohner. And is that a Prophet 5 in the top-right-corner ? A Moog on the top-left ? ... and i guess that the red synth on the bottom-left is a Nord ? Excellent equipment to see in that first pic !

Did they do a bass-battle as well ? And i think that TM was also briefly part of Narada Michael Walden's band ? A few years after i heard TM on Narada's album "The Dance Of Life", i saw him suddenly appear in an official live-clip with Whitney Houston and her tour band.
I'm also seeing now a Roland on the bottom-left, hehe [Edited 6/6/11 8:57am]

Was a really fun show. I imagine it'll just be getting better as the tour rolls on. I'm hoping maybe we'll get another LA date before the tour ends.

My pleasure. It was indeed a party! I took some shots from Razor & Bernie's playing perspective but they didn't really come out well. (Using a camera I wasn't really familiar with). I'll check again and if they weren't deleted i'll post them for you.

These are all great pictures posted here, but I particularly find these interesting. I always focus on the equipment at concerts, almost as much as I enjoy listening to the music that comes from it all. I appreciate that you've shared these with us very much. I find the closeups of these rigs just fascinating (particularly from this perspective... ON the stage).

This just posted on Bootsy's Facebook account. I'm glad to see he still does the bit where he steps off stage and marches out through the audience to 'reach out and touch'. I had the opportunity to hold his hand up high in victory when he did this at Tramps (NYC) several years ago while in concert. But seeing this picture from yesterdays concert; I can't help but remember when I first saw Bootsy in concert back in 1977, while in the car as my parents drove me to the Charlotte Civic Center in North Carolina, listening to the truckers trying to figure out what all the traffic was about in town on our CB (Citizen's Band Radio), them saying to each other... "What the Hell is going on around here? Looks like a G*d-Damned N*gger Convention done hit town!".
I wonder what those truckers would say about Bootsy's audience... TODAY?!? (...further proof that The Funk not only moves, but REMOVES! Uhh, discrimination... that is.)

Great night. I had a ball. Highly recommended if the tour hits your town. "Real music by real musicians," indeed. Watching Dr. Cornel West doing The Freak onstage and gettin' his groove on with a lovely lady...priceless.
Thanks, tA. | |
