Pee Wee Herman opening the show was a memorable moment as well, since it was his first appearance since his little "incident", lol. I thought he was so brave by even showing up... "Heard any good jokes lately?" and "Ha-ha, so funny I forgot to laugh!". I love when he just closed his eyes, opened his arms, and just received all the love he was getting from the audience. Took him a long time to completely come back, but now he's got a big hit on Broadway!
This YouTube clip is a shitty copy, but I'm glad I recorded the whole show on VHS tape when it aired.
I remember that one too.
I also remembered how strange he looked in his mugshot because I remembered the Pee Wee character. Then he gets arrested and he has long hair and a beard, I was like "WHAT!?" But he made a good comeback that night.
Yeah, that's pretty much when we learned that Pee Wee Herman was one person, and Paul Reubens was another. The thing that got me though was; we had VCR's by that time, I don't know WHY he was "wasting time" in a movie theater (unless his goal was to involve another person). I guess that's how he got caught, otherwise no one would have noticed.

Right. Should've bought porn at the local video store like all the rest of the pervs.
No, the one Wham did for that one song....Copacabana?...fuck it, I forget what it's called but it has George Michael singing about vacationing in some tropical paradise....THAT is the gayest video of the 80s.

Club Tropicana and nothing beats George Michael nude except for a tight ass white speedo.

I'm not talking about broadcasting. I'm talking about getting it filmed and edited in the first place.
People film those videos all the time though. It wasn't that big of a risk. I think FGTH knew the video wouldn't be well received anyway. I know they banned the song in the UK because they were offended that masturbation was even used. Ironically in the U.S., the song's subject matter went over the heads of U.S. listeners.

It didn't go over my head! I also saw it on cable in the 80s--and my reaction was

Well, you are younger than I am but have an impressive knowledge of music from my generation and before, more than I do! I am touched and impressed. If you came from a straight-laced religious family in the Midwest and were a teen you would have went also. I remember getting "musically" aroused at that video... LOL If you were a little kid you would think "why are these people groping on each other and getting into these awkward positions...?!!"

I didn't come from a strict upbringing so I saw EVERYTHING. In fact even if I had seen it, it was more like than to me.

I hear you! Glad that you weren't totally boxed in! Of course, when I was a kid, we were sneaky and curious about the "FORBIDDEN." I was so repressed where I grew up, I left the state and moved to wicked South Florida to indulge in "forbidden sins..."
