An album I forgot I bought - Eric Benet

Bought this album years ago : Eric Benet "A Day in the Life". I totally forgot I had it! Anyway I just put it on and it isn't bad actually! Anyone else like this guy's stuff?

I listened to it last night under the covers with my headphones on...Mmmm
I love this CD...It is not boring because it treats so many topics and presents several styles.
That first cut, Just My Way, is really something.
When You Think of Me is genius.
Lovin' Your Best Friend is a gem.
And of course when things are not going too well between you
and your mate..."Love The Hurt Away." is theraputic.
Did you notice the organ music in that song? Smooth! smile

Got both his albums but don't play them too often, he's better than the "R&B" status quo yet several notches down from D'Angelo etc IMO.

His new song is cool though, the dedication to his infidelity scarred wife Halle Berry...

"Lovin Your Best Friend" was my Cut with the Rick James Inspired Chorus that Wyclef brought on the Production where they Bring back "Mary Jane" style influence.it was cool having Roy Ayers&MeShell'Nedeocello on the Project with Him.I like parts of His First Album.I dig His Up-Tempo Cuts better overall.

Amnesiac/Radiohead
BBC Sessions/The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Live At Fillmore West/King Curtis
Rahsaan Patterson/Rahsaan Patterson
Power of Soul/Idris Muhammad

You answered yourself right there. Classic stuff yet a bit "much" taken over the course of two CDs in one listen.

Eric Benet is a cheap ass 4 not doing more LPs. He's def one of the best RnB acts 2day, a mind-blowing vocalist and a superb musician as well. I have both of his LPs and they're just timelss.

What I love about the brutha is he have his OWN SOUND, he's not missing with the mainstream heavy produced music and he ain't missing with that Neo-Soul bullshit either thats why I got much love and respect 4 the brutha. He also pays fine tribute pre4mances 2 Prince in many of his songs without ripping him off like D'Angelo does.

He can put Maxwell, D'Angelo, Bilal and Musiq on shame whenever he wants to. My fave songs from him:

-Love The Hurt Away(Thats a fine tribute 4 Prince)

-When You Think Of Me(featuring Roy Ayers)-A jazzy killer with RnB twist,,,I love this song 2 death.

-Georgy Porgy(featuring Faith Evans)-Very cool cover and the video is cool too.

-Loving Your Best Friend(I dig the Mary Jane hook in that song)

-I Want You(With Mariah Carey)-This song is a tribute 4 The S.O.S Band with an obevious Minneapolis sound's tribute. The SEXIEST song from Glitter.

-Could Have Been-A non-released song which could've been the Glitter sdtrck. He pre4med a small skit on the piano which you can see in the movie Glitter.

-Spiritual Thang

What I love about his 1st LP is the fact that Roger Troutman played the Talk Box and the keyboards in it, can't really remember on which song.

When will his new LP be released??

Sometimes I get many cd's at once, so it may take a while before I get to certain ones. I might get sidetracked by a different one before I give another one a chance.

And sometimes I just procrastinate before listening to an entire cd with a lot of old material. biggrin

"Spritual Thang" with ROger Troutman.the reason for not more Records is that His Records don't Sell.I don't put Him on Par with R.Kelly,D'angelo or Maxwell who are the Top Tier of R&B over the past 10 years IMHO.Benet is a Strong 2nd-Tier Cat but He doesn't even have one Signature Cut.Yes I enjoy His Work&Talent but Rahsaan Petterson who had that Jam back in 97"Stop On By" matches Him in Voice&Vibe as do others.Benet is has that same Stevie Element in His Voice&work like 99 others problem is it's only gonna so far until He writes that One Song that stands out from the rest.I Like His stuff But He is a Dime a Dozen Artist overall IMHO.

OFFHAND I WOULD SUGGEST...

a) Too much marital sex.
b) Too much sex outside wedlock.
c) Too much time spent 'curing' his addiction to sex.

That boy should learn to channel his creative juices. smile boff smile

My two euros. twocents

PS: It's a wonder Prince managed to record ANYTHING back in the eighties!
