If U had $1million USD to invest in the music business...?

What would you do? hmmm

Music education?

Publishing?

Record label?

Concert promotion?

Artist development or talent agent?

Recording studio or new recording technology?

Retail?

Distribution?

Instrument manufacturer?

Other stuff?

I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

I wouldn't go anywhere near the music business with my $1million USD. Music education is a noble cause to support but it has nothing to do with the music business.

I don't believe in business, music or otherwise. So I'd invest in myself. lol

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

To be honest, I'd spent money on the artist development. It's needed right now actually. lol

I'd put it in Gold. They need that for Gold Records. Either or that or old guitars. Maybe ultra-rare collectible LPs, those seem to increase in value every year.

Forced to choose from that list... probably concert promotion, since that's the only area of the biz making decent money even once in a while. But I'd be selective about how I spent my investment.

I would NOT give it to Live Nation put it that way.

If that was the way it works, then many acts would buy their recordings. lol I'm sure Prince has enough money to cover that anyway. Some acts owned their masters in the 1st place and leased them out to labels like Genesis (except the 1969 debut album), U2, and Motley Crue.

I'd get every music video ever available for high quality, legal downloads. I dream of having access to all my favorite artists' vids on tv, not youtube. I'd invent a device that can hold 10,000 high quality music videos on it, where you can make playlists like an ipod.

Just wishful thinking on my part. Even though eye already know, he is already getting them back one by one....

I'd create an embedded technology that destroys illegally downloaded songs after 10 seconds.

Wow great question! I used to seriously want to get into it but not anymore at all. I've put it behind me now. However, if I were to change my mind, I would buy a recording studio and ProTools so I could write and compose for fun and make my dream album and find a way to distribute it without being mainstream. I don't like my voice at all anymore, so maybe I would get training again to get it back in shape, or just find artists to sing my stuff, and have a publishing company of my own, so I could make my own money(with some education on the business of course). And I stopped piano lessons somewhere along the way in my teens, so I would continue them so I can become certified to teach and do private lessons on the side of what I already do, so that way it helps foster other people's interest.

Honestly?

Hire somebody to shoot a 2-parts documentary about black female instrumentalists from the yester years all the way to now and sell it to PBS.

It might be sound short sighted in a business sense, but it will always be there, accessible for everybody to see for the many years to come, whether for enjoyment or knowledge/reference seeking. And hell, I'll get a percentage for every time they show it,,,um,,,provided there's interest of course lol

Yeah, that'd be a good city. The L.A. version wouldn't have worked and New York was done already. They have a Vegas version but it's not the same lol

Spend most of it on hitmen to wipe out some of these so-called "artists" out here. I'll spend whatever is left on a whopper from Burger King.

With $1million you ain't even in the game, and even if you were, you'd be investing in a business with colossal failure rates.

Publishing and music education

If I had about $10 million, I'd buy a piece of MTV and re-launch it as a music channel like it originally was

My lineup

- 120 Minutes

- MTV Jams

- Unplugged

- UK Top 20

- Making The Video

- Headbanger's Ball

- Direct Effect

- Club MTV

- Classic MTV

- Artist Collection
