La Toya Jackson writes of brother's death in book

LaToya JacksonAP – FILE - In this April 29, 2011 file photo LaToya Jackson arrives at the 18th annual Race to Erase MS Gala …

NEW YORK – La Toya Jackson writes in her new book "Starting Over" that the first question that ran through her mind after she learned of her brother's death was, "Who killed Michael?"

The book is scheduled to go on sale next week, two years after the pop star's death of a sedative overdose. Dr. Conrad Murray has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter, and trial is set for September.

La Toya Jackson says her brother often predicted he would be killed over his estate and music publishing catalog.

She also says she learned a lot about Michael's well-being in the days before his death. His daughter Paris told her that "Daddy was always cold" and that "he would always cry."

La Toya Jackson writes that she confronted Dr. Conrad Murray in the hospital shortly after her brother was pronounced dead to find out what happened and that he gave her only "evasion and excuses."

She also writes that she searched Jackson's bedroom and found it "torn to pieces," with furniture overturned and items scattered about. They included notes she believes were written by Michael indicating that he needed his father Joseph's help to get "these people out of my life" and that he "only agreed to 10 shows."

When he died on June 25, 2009, Jackson was a few weeks away from kicking off a string of 50 shows at The O2 Arena in London. Originally only 10 concerts were announced, but tickets sold out in less than an hour and 40 more shows were added.

La Toya Jackson writes that she heard from other people in Michael's life who were suspicious of his final days, including friends and fans.

She won't be the last of her family to share their story. Brother Jermaine Jackson has a book coming out in September.

Her new album "Starting Over" also comes out on itunes the same day her book is released (June 21st)

Lets see so the list of family, friends, ex-employees, colleagues, etc. who are writing/have written books on Michael Jackson:

Arnie Klein
Gotham Chopra
Alejandra Jackson (ok, her book will be about the family but I'm sure she will write about MJ as well)
Jermaine Jackson
Katherine Jackson
LaToya Jackson
The Three Security Guards
Frank DiLeo
Frank Cascio

Rabbi Schmuley Boteach (2 books by him)

So that's 10 people, 11 books in just 2 years.

Judge delays ruling on access to Jackson footage

By LINDA DEUTSCH, AP Special Correspondent Thu Jun 16, 2:50 pm ET

LOS ANGELES – Lawyers for Michael Jackson's doctor and Sony Pictures aired some of their dispute Thursday over release of unused footage from the star's posthumous concert film, "This Is It."

But the judge presiding over the involuntary manslaughter case of Dr. Conrad Murray delayed ruling on the issue, citing confusion about exactly what the defense wants to see.

Lawyers for Sony said the defense request had "changed radically" in recent days, and the entertainment company wanted more time to research the matter and file additional legal briefs.

Sony attorney Gary Bostwick said the subpoena for raw footage has now changed to a request for film from two of Jackson's personal video cameras.

Defense lawyers said earlier they wanted all raw footage of Jackson's rehearsals for what was to have been a live concert in London.

Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor said he was sensitive to whether the request is merely a fishing expedition. He said release of any footage would come with restrictions to prevent it from being disseminated on the Internet and elsewhere.

"If Michael Jackson materials are just out there, there could be amazing consequences for Sony and the Jackson estate," the judge said. "I'm not inclined to order that they just turn them over."

Bostwick added, "We will continue to be very concerned that anything shown in court leaks out and goes viral."

But he acknowledged that once the video becomes a trial exhibit, it will be difficult to keep it secret.

Prosecutors plan to use clips from the theatrically released, "This Is It" to show jurors in Murray's trial that Jackson was in good health just before he died.

The defense wants to show otherwise. Those lawyers contend scenes showing Jackson in frail health during rehearsals may have been edited out of the movie.

Lawyers have said there are more than 100 hours of footage from which the movie was culled.

Murray lawyer Ed Chernoff said he learned recently that footage was recorded by Jackson's personal camera crew operating two cameras.

"If it's more than those two cameras, yes, we are asking for all the footage," he said.

Another hearing was set for June 24, just before the second anniversary of Jackson's death.

Murray has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in Jackson's death from an overdose of the anesthetic propofol and other sedatives. Trial is set for September.

I saw this @ the gearslutz's forum on a random search:

http://www.gearslutz.com/...l-mic.html

I had one engineer tell me some engineers when recording MJ would try fancy tube mic X only to have it distort because of the massive level his voice put out...not good when you're dealing with a guy who can sing a song in one pass...
I've heard he used the sm7 as well.

Another friend of mne does a lot of tracking for prince. So I asked him what mic prince uses and he replied "whatever you stick in front of him".

Sony C-800G into a Neve 1084 followed by a silver faced 1176 set at 20:1 to catch the peaks. The only time the vocal chain varied was on "Earth Song" because we had to match some vocals Bottrill had done years before on either a U47 or 251, I honestly can't remember which one. Bruce's original M-49 makes appearances as well and he told me they used the SM-7 a lot on Thriller. We did one vocal for a song that didn't make the record on an SM-57 in the control room, also sounded great !!!! On the records I worked on the U47fet only made an appearance on some background vocals (not MJ's, session singers) and some rap stuff. Most of the choir work was Bruce's M-49's again. I don't ever recall Bruce using a 1081, mostly 1084, 1073, and 1064's.

bboy87 http://www.facebook.com/p...amp;ref=nf the whole convo is right there. the info from someone who worked for Propoganda Films at the time

Thanks bboy, Really interesting read. I love to read behind the scenes stories. One of the intriguing things for me on this is the fact that I think Who Is It is a great video, so the fact there was a problem with Michael and Fincher is interesting.

The thing I can't understand is here you have Michael in one the most powerful times in his career, he had signed a huge record deal in the last couple of years, huge tour, Oprah, Superbowl. This is why I don't get the way Fincher was supposed to have been towards Michael. Fincher was pretty small time then. I amazed he wasn't fired by Michael???

On a slightly different note...what other artist has worked with so many amazing director's? Shame they don't bare that in mind when making cut and paste video's now he has gone. confused

Sorry for the way i am quoting, but I can't the reply with quote to work properly, it just freezes my laptop confused

The original version premiered the week the Dangerous Tour launched, in June '92. It premiered on a show called DEF II (I think it was a show on BBC)

Michael didn't like it when it premiered, went back to re-edit. When the single was released here in the States in early '93, he went with the montage.

US Hot 100- #14

US R&B- #6

US Dance- #1

US Dance Single Sales- #1

UK- #10

the Dangerous remixes helped the album, 4 of the singles were #1 on the Dance chart

I still have my black beat it jacket from 1984 when I was a kid. Sure it doesn't fit, but it sure makes me smile.

I am using explorer. I know the basics, but I am nowhere near an expert on computers. It froze twice just trying to make this response. Only happens on this forum.
