Picks up an instrument? Gaga? "Get up off that grey line"

Basically.
I listen to the fluffiest pop (Not saying I consider Gaga to be fluffy pop...even though a lot of people do) to the most serious musicians...Prince of course being at the very top.
For me music doesn't have to be so serious all the time.
And yes Gaga has picked up an instrument

Right, which is the reason I was confused by his statement lol

The real funny thing is that, in reality, out of the both of them, Prince takes way less time to come out with his music than Lady Gaga.

I think he/she was referring to Beyonce in that last post. Honey, stop talking and just create the music.

Were older people (as in, older than, say, 35?) as bitter about Prince when he was starting out as people are now about Gaga?
I really don't understand why people spend so much energy and time professing their dislike for Lady Gaga instead of just, you know, ignoring her. They're almost as annoying as her teenage fans who claim that she saved their lives

it could be bitter but also times were different were social mediums weren't as prevelant as they are today. the tweets, facebook, myspace etc is now viewed as marketing and in ur face type of media knowledge about a artitst. record companies back when prince started groomed a artist and weren't really as focused as soon as they come out have a hit or your dropped by the labels like they are today. when madonna came out and was a star upon arrival there was backlash somewhat in terms of the shock value vs the amount of musical input she had at the time. i'm not a huge gaga fan but i appreciate some of her music and look forward 2 seeing her grow as a complete artist. it's too early to say what she may accomplish and hopefully her star won't burn out to quickly but it also wouldn't surprise me if she did. out of the current crop of stars, i do feel she has the most 2 gain in becoming a legandary artist. time will tell tho man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I figured he meant Beyonce since:
-Gaga doesn't really do vocal runs -Gaga plays piano -Gaga doesn't have a bunch of "guests" on her albums.
Honey, stop talking and just create the music.

People have the right to think what they want, though. Some can't stand her with a passion and that's their thing. Some believe her music has saved lives, and they have a valid point, too. [Edited 6/16/11 13:00pm] Honey, stop talking and just create the music.

Yup, and I also think there are still many people that think mainstream pop = garbage, automatically. And although, yes, most of mainstream pop (Rihanna, Katy Perry, Kesha, etc.) is garbage, I've always felt that Lady Gaga's music has much, much, much more substance than that of most people making pop music. It's surprising to me, though, that in a Prince site, she gets so much shit for not being a true artist. I see more Prince and Bowie in her than I see Madonna or Britney or whatever.
I wish people would simply get over themselves and, OK, you don't like her, you think your musical taste makes you a superior individual, we get it - and it seems to always come from older people. I was born 12 years after For You was released so I wouldn't know how people reacted to him and I suppose the media, like you say, has a lot to do with people's reactions now.
I'm not making sense, I'll stop typing.

That's it in a nutshell. If people don't like her, or think she's stealing from other artists, or are annoyed with her wardrobe or looks or whatever, change the channel. The end. "Get up off that grey line"

I was wondering why I had to go to the Billboard site to see who was number one this week.

curious on where u see the prince in her. is it the shock value? i do see more of a madonna/elton influuence tho man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Well, there's that. Also in how she works - or at least how she says she works and I'm sure she has a ton of music piled up and different versions of each song, etc. I don't really know how to put it but when I first started to listen to her music I got a very Prince-y vibe from her.

This is true. This difference is, Gaga's music acutally sounds like it was thrown together. Prince is music Jesus. He can fiddle with a casio for 15 minutes and it would be worth listening to...Gaga...not so much (for me)

Umm The Edge of Glory video it looks like it was filmed in one day (which it was rumored to be) which is not a bad thing but ….. I wanted her to keep it simple for this song I wasn't expecting this though no wonder it had no hype but it’s a pretty forgettable video compared to the others. A guess not a fuck was given when she was making this move on to Government hooker girl.

Interesting. I heard she and Laurieann got into it with the supposed film director (Joseph Kahn) so he walked out of the project and they directed (Gaga and Laurieann) it themselves.
