some people seem 2 think that she's some kind of messiah of pop music

Ok, I have now listened to the complete album - with in-ear speakers. I hate to say it, but I don't dislike it anymore.
I think Gaga finally got me. I kinda... love it. My problem with her was that her choruses were too simple and Eurovision Song Contest-like. That's definitely not the case anymore. Oh my, I never thought this day would come.

That's just as bad as those who think she's RUINING it. But yeah that's just too much. She has good pop music (most of the time) that's all.

Agreed.
I really like what she's done for pop music. She's been a breath of fresh air. She's injected fun 80's glam / pop / new wave / dance influences into a very stale genre. All of the stuff she is drawing from is the stuff I grew up with listening to. She does it in a fun, fresh, clever way. She's also been very positive and outspoken about gay rights, which, as a married gay man, is an issue near and very dear to my heart. I think she greatly deserves her success, and I hope she continues a long, long time! She entertains and inspires people, and ya can't really ask for more than that. * * *

yeah, i'm not denying the fact that she brought some refreshment in2 the scene...but that's it...I actually wanted 2 like the album...I wanted 2 this excitment...but although I liked the first album and I think that Bad Romance is one of the greatest pop tunes of the last decade, this new album just doesn't do 4 me

And that’s okay I don’t like every album a lot of my favorites have done. For this album I seen some that like it some that don't.

But like others have said this isnt a review but more an attack, now granted im not a fan of hers, but given more output i could be, im just not feeling her "revamping" of every artist, but in her defense again this isnt a review, its kind of Like when Jim Farber of the NY daily news reviews a new Bon Jovi album and he always sites the 80's, hair, hair cuts etc...and never talks about a song, Jim Farber also has no cred since he is MR. jump on the bandwagon reviewer, and also he is the one that gave "Chaos And Disorder" one star and then a few months later gave Emancipation 5 stars?? Really did you listen to either one? Chaos was lights years more interesting than the mess of Emancipation "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

I rarely take his reviews seriously but I do read them when I see them in the daily news. I seen him praise some WTF albums.

Why is that ALWAYS the first comparison that pops into people's minds? "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

Race relations is kind of a big deal in America.

I was with you until the last sentence. I think they are both great.

Race relations and sexual preference in society are completely different issues.
You can't hide your skin color, while it is a personal choice to make your sexuality public.
You are delusional if you think that is a rational justification.
+ How is Gaga acting against injustice? If anything she is hurting those she is trying to help. 4 Example: People who don't like Gaga are going to dislike her fanbase, and seeing how a large portion of them are gay it further perpetuates homophobic assertions in that regard.
She is using her soapbox to secure a demographic that is in need of a public 'leader' in order to sell a product, even if she truly believes in it.
Also, she is alienating any straight male who is interested in her music. That may seem like an ignorant statement but let us be honest about things. In the real world, most men are afraid of being labeled as gay and enjoying 'feminine music' is something that would attract unwanted accusations.
You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I wouldn't say it's ignorant. It's pretty spot on. However, that's a hangup the straight males have to work out themselves.
The album is uplifting--not repressive or alienating IMO.

First off I am a huge Madonna fan. By saying this I mean I paid close to a thousand bucks for a close seat at her Sticky and Sweet show in Atlanta. Obviously she means a little something to me. Ok I dont see GaGa ripping her off at all. Yes I see the influence but come on lets be fair. Madonna is the biggest Pop Star from like almost three decades. Of course she is influenced by her. Alejandro has a latin type sound to it but if you think back about ten years ago a ton of songs did ok. Were they all ripping off La Isla Bonita? Express was cool but Born This Way talks directly to people that are being discriminated agaisnt. Express was about not letting a man put you down in a relationship. Sorry they don't equal. Also Madonna has always supported the gay community but other than some suggestive dance moves and such she has never, that I know of, talked directly to us onstage. Gaga tells the audience during Boys Boys Boys live to get up and show their gay pride. I have seen all of Madonna's shows and have seen GaGa's. They are not the same. These are two different entities. As for the new record, I'm not gonna trust a review. I'll just have to wait and hear it myself. Anyway I liked American Life.

Ever hear of a guy named Michael Jackson?
I do agree with what ur saying though. "Get up off that grey line"

I feel a lot of love & respect for the American Life album. So I'd never take a review which refers to it as a bad piece of work so seriosly. If a Madonna fan still hasn't got the meaning of it, his reviews are meaningless. (and I'm not a Gaga fan) "America is a continent..."

True though i really think that if there was some form of "looking back" or just plain change in thinking in the way formats of radio and video are decided you would have never had to have someone re-inject a genre. Meaning, if you remember when videos and mTv were in the "infant" days, there was a look back, you got the new Mariah Carey video or whomever, but then they slipped in the Pat Benatar or whomevers new or old video, so music/video/tours it was all encompassing, there was this bullshit 10 song playlist and strict brainwashed zombie like programming going on to basically "dumb down" the audience and the talent. So its good when a Gaga or adele or Norah Jones slips through, but if the was a more open field, no one would have to "slip" through "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

yeah i mean a good song is good and bad is bad, thats the two kinds of Music as i heard Richard Marx say recently, Good and Bad, and if you like it, its good, and if you dont, its bad. Music is totally subjective.
But that being said i mean you can like the new Ashley Tisdale song and find it catchy, that doesnt mean she is the pop answer, or whatever. There is WAY too much talk of people/artists being "saviours" after one record, but 99% of the time its not the artists fault, its either their PR people or just wack ass journalists that write blogs and online BS magazines. "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

After giving it a few more listens, I've come to the conclusion that it is an OK album. Not a masterpiece or brilliant.
Only 3 or 4 songs are great, the rest are verging from OK to boring.
I really am digging Heavy Mental Lover. The best track on the album by far.

I'm still at people calling that song Heavy MENTAL Lover! It's METAL.

LOL my bad. i dunno why I keep calling it Mental.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I still haven't heard it
I'm gonna wait and listen to it properly: I don't wanna rush things and give the album a 4/10 when I know it deserves a 8/10...

Me too but I'm in a bit of a pickle. I pre-ordered the album from amazon but Canada Post is almost certainly going to go on strike next week. Ordinarily I would probably receive the album 2-3 days after the release date but it looks like it could be 2-3 weeks.
Not only am I going to miss hearing the album for a few weeks but as a non union Canada Post employee I am going to be out a few weeks pay! I'm not too concerned about the money but I need my Gaga!

you know, this is kind of exciting, waiting in the dark while millions have already known the truth, lol . ...can't wait to May 24
