Terrance Hobbs plays guitar in the band Suffocation that is considered one of the most influental early death metal bands (from 1989 onwards). I know that the genre itself isn't exactly favoured by orgers, but I think the band is worth noting for the the contributions of black musicians in genres that aren't considered "black music":
The drummer Mike Smith is also black and he is generally credited for inventing the "blast beat" (a very common technique in "extreme metal"). So you could say black musicians have had a huge influence also on death metal.

I saw Ernie and Vernon play at the Experience Hendrix concert last Oct. Ernie was great, but Vernon blew my head off. He was awesome, I could barely take my eyes off him and luckily I was in the 4th row. Although it was Kenny Wayne Shepherd that stole the show, Vernon was incredible.

Thanks so much for posting that!! As a black guy who listened to lots of Death Metal, I always looked up to these guys. It certainly isn't for everybody musically (or lyrically)... but, I was/am a fan.
My list would include:
Jimi Hendrix Vernon Reid Greg Howe (whom I've studied with...great teacher) Tony MacAlpine Ernie Isley Dez Prince Slash Eddie Hazel Jimi Hazel Kevin Eubanks Toshi Iseda
Lenny Kravitz is a great player when he lets loose. He's not just a rhythm guy.
There's also this new guy who has a band called ANIMALS AS LEADERS. He has a funky name that has slipped my mind---but, he is crazy good. Very technical.
