Europe- The Final Countdown Album I am sure a lot of you are laughing at me right now but i LOVEEEEE Europe!!!
Europe is an underrated band & this album is an 80's masterpiece, the song's here are over the top, full of guitar solos, keyboard solos and even harmonicas!! these guy's where actually quite talented and this album is a pleasure. Every song is rocking and catch as hell.. and oh so 80's

Love it, Love it, Love it!!!!
Don't know why or how... but, I went through a Europe phase when I was around 16. This was 1993 mind you. I guess I saw the Final Countdown video on Headbanger's Ball and I happened to find the cassette for $2.00 in the used bin the very next day....
I really enjoy this record. They weren't a typical Hair Metal band...not LA Sunset Strip, at all. Possibly their Swedish roots influenced their love of Deep Purple--organ solos, a guitarist that was cleary inspired by both Richie Blackmore and Yngwie, killer songs with varied lyrical content and a powerhouse singer in Joey Tempest.
Danger On The Track and Heart Of Stone are my two favorites, but the whole album is wonderful.
I considered Joey Tempest as one of my all time favorite singers at one point... unfortunately, EVERY single performance I've seen or have heard, has him dodging all of the high notes---kinda' disappointing. I streamed the Final Countdown concert on Netflix recently and it was a good performance, but I was bummed when he would avoid the money notes.
Still, a great singer, band and album.
The Final Countdown line-up reunited several years ago and are still touring and putting out solid records. They perform the older songs tuned down and with an updated modern rock sound...but, still good. [Edited 5/13/11 12:57pm] [Edited 5/13/11 12:59pm]

Me too! One of my favourite bands. The first real concert I ever attended too back in '89! Have been a fan since '86! Though that song is a blessing and a course! That song still gets people like a motherfucker during their concerts and is the reason, why they still do quite well, when they tour, but it's also a reason why some people dismiss them as some cheesy 80ies relict... when in fact they have so much more to offer. The were great before TFC and they were great after TFC.
And yes... they were falsely put into that LA hair band category.
There will be a new live DVD coming this month.... Balls 'N' Banners, live at Sheperds bush... recorded earlier this year in London. I was there... great gig, should be a great DVD.

I think this album (LP) was the first I owned (1986). A good record with great songs like "Carrie" , "Rock the night", "Cherokee" and the title song.

Goof story! this is a fun little album, and hell even some of the song's have meaning like Cherokee!! and Ninja is quite different to i think it's keyboards & Joey's voice which is good but i may sound to ''wuss'' for the hard rockers. And those reasons are probably why the band is seen a joke by some, but yes the whole album is great! heart Of Stone & Danger are my faves to Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

All of their albums have got something going for them... well, on the first two probably the production is not as good and Joey's voice is not quite there yet... they were pretty young when they started, but the songs are great... "Seven doors hotel", "Memories", "Paradize bay", "King will return", "In the future to come", "Scream of Anger", "Stormwind", "Wings of tomorrow"... are all great tracks and so not in the Hair metal tradition (their influences are more the british hard rock/heavy metal bands.. Thin Lizzy, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, UFO...)! "Out of this world" is great too, although probably a bit too polished. The solos were great though, Kee Marcello put in some great work, but I kinda prefer Europe with John Norum. I like his style. Out of the 3 reunion albums "Secret Society" is my favourite. I like Europe. I had The Final Countdown and the album right after that one, I think it was Out of this World on cassette tape back in the 80s.
Two of my favorite songs by them:

The Almost Unplugged album is really good, too.
A great version of Rock the Night, one of my favorites.
(I can't believe that I loved this band back in 1986, and this summer I will finally see them after all these years!).
