The Soul Train Gang - Soul Train '75

This is slowly replacing Up on Soul Train as the second best theme song of this show. If this doesn't move ya, you're dead. lol

This is probably my least favorite ST theme song.

My favorite one is "Up On Soul Train"

Next Fav is "Soul Train's A Comin"

Then TSOP.

Then the last one George Duke did (which is a TSOP remix/remake)

Then this one.

Well that's hard to argue since Soul Train themes were just too damn good.

I hated the theme they had right before they went off the air. But I guess it fit right in with what the show had become...."The Shit Hop Train from Hell". lol

You know, I watched Soul Train pretty regularly as a kid, I can't remember this theme song. I must have flipped on the channel right after the beginning or something. I hated this version at first, but now I love it. It's the cheesiest version, but it's fun to bop to. music

Whatever Happened To The ...ul Train'?

Chances are, you know exactly who I am referring to in the title without having to refer to the woman pictured on the left in the photo. If you are of a certain age, you likely remember Soul Train's Cheryl Song, the woman whose hair I coveted so much I walked around the house in a yellow towel at times to recreate flowing tresses. She was not only a featured Soul Train dancer, but was a dancer in Rick James' "Superfreak" video and also got assaulted with a kiss in the beginning of the "Beat It" video. Apparently, Cheryl also played a role in Michael Jackson learning how to moonwalk. As fate would have it, Cheryl has shortened her trademark locks and is now an executive assistant at the Transportation & Safety Association in Los Angeles. Has all this nostalgia gotten you down? Don't fret. You can still remember those good old days with Cheryl after the bounce. Props to Stylus for the intel on this one.

I thought the 80's themes were by O'Bryan, The Whispers, & Howard Hewitt. I think there was one by Heavy D later, but don't remember as I didn't watch the show much at that point. lol

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Nah Heavy D never contributed to a Soul Train theme. I know Naughty By Nature did.

To be honest, the most overlooked ST theme of all time was the original one: the "Hot Potatoes" instrumental by King Curtis that ran for the first year and a half of the show (1971-1973).

That must be it. I know it was a rap theme. Wasn't there a guy named Mystro (or something like that) hosting the show then?

when i stopped regularly watching, the TSOP one was still being used... but it was being used very briefly. they'd never play a lot of the song in the intro.

Yeah I'm sure the ST affocionados are real familiar with it but the public surely isn't. Most think the only theme the show had was TSOP (which was originally titled Soul Train '73) lol
