I found this on his demise, GC.

Smooth Jazz Hip-Hop Sax Artist J Spencer Dies

Spencer McCormick, pka, J. Spencer, passed away on July 9, 2005 due to heart failure. He was only 36. A Bay Area-based artist, Spencer was a renowned session musician, who also made a name for himself as a solo artist.

Signed to the MoJazz label (a jazz spin-off imprint of Motown), Spencer released two albums for the company: Chimera (1993) and Bluemoon (1995).

This is the 1st I've heard of him dying.

I was wondering what happened 2 him.

Yes, I remember when that happened. Just proves heart disease does not discriminate.

Heart failure is also code for an enlarged heart caused by drug use. Not saying that's the case here but....

Someone with the misfortune of having an undiagnosed enlarged heart condition can experience sudden death because of strenuous exercise, high blood pressure, viral infection, or a weakening of the heart muscle. There is a possibility he was unaware of the disease.

That's what I was thinking too. It ain't gotta be all about drug abuse.

I remember that happening to the late Reggie Lewis from the Boston Celtics. 27 years old ... rose

I got hipped to J. Spencer's music after a buddy saw a great show of him during his first album release.
