I don't recall there being any religious references in "just dance", "poker face", "paparazzi", "telephone", "bad romance"..... they were just good songs. no pandering to certain demographics either, the way "born this way" is a blatant pander to the LGBT community.

That's actually an interesting connection. Gaga is speaking of virtue versus a somewhat sinful nature hence the "demon I cling to" part.

I like Christina but Gaga certainly has much more restraint. If you sing all out all the time then there are no subtleties in your music.
