Please don't, suga. You're opening up a can of unnecessary worms. At this rate, Gaga could release a song about bumblebees and someone would say "Madonna did it fiiirrrsssttt!!!!" "Get up off that grey line"

OK I just heard this song...and I'm totally feeling the Chant....
I can't WAIT until Leyomi Mizrahi dips the FUCK out of this song.
Where is the fucking club remix on the chant when you need it?!!!! "A Man Can't Ride Your Back Unless It's Bent" MLK 4/3/68

The chorus rips-off her own "Bad Romance". At this rate, she'll completely be out of fresh ideas for the next album.

I used to love GAGA, but this sounds like she's copying herself, like she's mimicking herself. Not advancing to something greater. And Born This Way sounds like "Express Yourself" by Madonna...jus sayin'. lol "Is anyone pregnant yet?" - Prince 3.26.11

Sheeple. Get out the hydrogen peroxide and clean out your ears.

I can admit that Judas DOES sound like BR AND BTW
The opening chant sounds like BR and the bridge is reminiscent of BTW

^^Sorry for the double post, but it bears repeating... "Get up off that grey line"

On "Judas" , thankfully, she chose not to borrow from Madonna, who after all has enjoyed a near 30-year career. Gaga and RedOne will be afterthoughts in 30 years.

Now lets all hold hands and talk about how Mother Madge was the one who tapped on the rock and brought forth water.

Was this, actual, proven fact or just some arbitrary conclusion you came to?

I fully expect Lady Gaga's 'SEX' book to come next. Then she'll pretend to clean herself up so that she can do her own EVITA. Then comes a baby. Then comes an album with a William Orbit knock-off.
I read this book already.

I'm a much bigger fan of Lady Gaga than I am of Madonna but I would argue that the vast majority of those "thefts" are legitimate homages. However, it does underscore that Madonna is not the most original artist and it's kind of laughable when people claim that Lady Gaga "stole" from Madonna when so much of Madonna's career was built on borrowing things from others.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
So that makes it ok?
Someone would be out of their minds to think that Madonna was original in anyway possible, but does that justify what Lady Gaga does?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It's not about justification. It's about the fact that these things are not exclusive to anyone. They are public domain.
Art has copied art since the 2nd-ever piece of art was created and I dare say you can't tell me who that was.
Can you even tell me who wrote the chord progression? Let's take this whole idea a step further and examine Gaga's claim that the chord progression has existed since the inception of disco (at least). If Gaga didn't write it and Madge didn't write it, who did?
I know you have the answer, right?

What makes them legitimate homages and what Gaga does illegitimate?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
What exactly does she do? She's a representation of all of the artists who have inspired her in one way or another through the years. Just as any given name in the world of pop music is. Prince is inspired by Jimi Hendrix and James Brown. MJ by James Brown and Motown. The list goes on and on. I can see a myriad of artists in Gaga, but she fuses elements of them into her own unique style. She's not exactly like any one person. That's what makes her unique.
She's practically Dale Bozzio of Missing Persons's twin
The point is, a lot in pop music is borrowed and inspired by... What seperates Gaga from the other pop tartlets is that she writes, plays an instrument and can sing.

What exactly has Lady Gaga done that you object to? What is not ok about what she is doing?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I'm on team Gaga, I don't think anything she has done or is doing is illegitimate.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
The media done brainwashed all y'all.
No one's "original". | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
"Y'all"?
Who is y'all, cuz nobody on Team Gagaloo has claimed Gaga invented it. In fact, we're the only ones saying that neither she nor Madge invented shit.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
^ I know a few "monsters" who claim she is though.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
A few? There are tons of little gremlins out there who are like "Madge and Co. who? Gaga did all of this herself; she is the be-all-end-all!", or they actually choose to acknowledge her as the "new Madonna" and that the "old Madonna" is now obsolete. No one is claiming that anyone in the music industry is purely original, but some people need to realize that without Madge, Prince and all of the other crazy ass musicians who had the guts to do what they did at that time, there would be no Gaga. Hell, some of the musicians need to realize this!
Oh, and "Born This Way" sounds like "Express Yourself."
[Edited 4/21/11 16:41pm] Honey, stop talking and just create the music.
