The late Skip Scarborough composed "Love Ballad".

His other songwriting credits include 'Can't Hide Love' / 'Love's Holiday' / 'Earth Wind & Fire' (for Earth, Wind & Fire); 'Don't Ask My Neighbors' (for The Emotions);'Giving You the Best That I've Got' (for Anita Baker), "Ffun" (for ConFunkshun) and "Love Changes" (for Mother's Finest). He was a true master of his craft.

Great songwriter. Too bad he passed away though.

Yes, sadly he was only around 59 at the time of his death. His songs still convey an emotional depth few can match.

biggrin Thanks for the Photo! the only other time I actually saw Skip was when he came onstage after he won the Grammy for writing "Giving You The Best That I Got".....

"I'll Write A Song For You" for EWF and "Lovely Day" for Bill Withers are also favorites of mine.

Philip Bailey once said in an interview that one song they wished they had gotten from Skip was "Love Ballad", but by then he had already given it to L.T.D........

Yes Skip was a master. He wrote gems for EWF and did some work on ConFunkShun's Loveshine

album. As a matter of fact the title track sounds just like an EWF classic.

Yeah, first time i heard George Duke's version was a while ago, but not so long ago i noticed a cd-reissue of Gary Bartz' album,

with his take of the late Skip's classic and with angel Syreeta sparkling on there. 2 great spirits who are missed rose

Classic slow jam! Love me some L.T.D. and Jeffery Osburne. They play this every weekend in Chicago during the Quiet Storm hours. I also love George Benson's cover of this cut:

Philip Bailey has said that he wishes EW&F had gotten "Love Ballad" before Skip offered it to L.T.D lol It would have fit perfectly on EW&F's 'Spirit' album.

Skip was also the sole writer of EWF's "Love Music" found on the 1978 compliation album The Best of Earth, Wind & Fire, Vol.1.

wow, there's not a song on this list that i don't like. 'ffun' sticks out b/c it's so different than the others, but it's a testament to his versatility.

love ballad is on my ipod.

According to legend, Skip wrote "Love Ballad" in a mere 20 minutes while in Bermuda.

I'm always shocked at how some bands would have live instruments on stage at this show, but still were lip-syncing. lol
