Patti LaBelle - You Are My Friend/Lord's Side live (When A Woman Loves 2000 Tour) - like you never seen her before

Patti was going through a lot of bullshit during this period. While she was fine vocally, around 3:28, the emotion (and probably her bout with diabetes) catches up with her and she stops singing and pauses for a minute as if she's crying (she was getting a divorce and her album was failing on the charts). Her background singers had to basically console her and it took her until 8:19 of this video to come back singing.

That's the definition of a true artist...Patti keeps it real all of the time. Songs are powerful when it truly hits us like a lighting bolt, but it's rare to see artists behind the song get moved by it when we'll up close and personal with them. WOW!

Yeah, Patti is one of those rare artists where you can see their realism. Patti herself was so moved she couldn't sing it anymore and she had been singing it for 23 years at the time of this performance. She almost retired the song after its co-writer "Budd" Ellison died in 2006 prior to the release of Patti's gospel album.

WOW!!! i love miss patti!!!

but i felt really sad and almost cried when she stopped... it did indeed look like a mixture of grief and sugar level. and when she took off that wig... it did look entirely freeing. she got all that hair under there, and is still like, 'i want a wig'! her and dolly parton are two of the realest chicks in the business.
