Lady GaGa To Play Mary Magdalene In ‘Judas’ Video

ladygaga41 Lady GaGa To Play Mary Magdalene In Judas Video

True to form, Lady GaGa looks set to shock with the upcoming video for her new single ‘Judas’.

Set to premiere on April 19th, the singer’s longtime choreographer and creative director Laurieann Gibson has shared details on what the eagerly awaited clip will be depicting.

If religious groups were angered before, they’ll no doubt be making a whole lot of noise this go round.

Full story after the jump…

Via MTV:

“I will tell you now, first off, I’m Christian, and my career is evidence of God in my life, and I think that most people are already thinking that Gaga and the blasphemy and they’re premeditating the approach and I think they’ll be very shocked to find out how huge and really groundbreaking the message is and how freeing the message is for all the right reasons,” Gibson said. “And it’s really going to shock the world.”

The cast includes some big-name cameos as well, including Norman Reedus as Judas. “He was so prolific,” she declared of his performance, adding that the video is “badass” and that Gaga will play Mary Magdalene.

The two ladies took it upon themselves to make sure the video’s direction was perfect — so they just decided to direct it themselves. “There was elements of ‘Born This Way’ during our collaboration [with director Nick Knight] and, as much as I loved it, there were moments where, for me, it didn’t really evolve as I had inspired of the actual creative, which was defined.

“But when we got to ‘Judas,’ it was very clear to me and the inspiration was very clear to her. We approached a director, but then the dates actually got messed up and it was conflicted and her manager and her looked at me [and asked me to direct it with her].”

Gibson said she took a moment before agreeing, as she had just wrapped up work on Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball HBO special, premiering in May, but she “couldn’t resist. It’s a phenomenal video: really powerful, really impactful. She’s such a strong, committed artist. Her loyalty to me is something I will be forever grateful for. We’re spiritually connected. We need each other, and ‘Judas’ is ultimately a representation of our true bond.”

We’ll hold full judgement until seeing the video come the 19th. In the meanwhile

^^ I feel like Madonna and Prince have always been doing that too though. It's so hard to draw a line between 'what's ok' and 'what's not ok' =(

It's nice to have someone so visible singing about religion and not being a shit about it. It's too bad most Bible-thumpers are too busy bitching about evolution or looking for secret codes in Leviticus to actually focus on the message of Christ like Gaga does.

Hmmm... I hope it's done well for the sake of the plot and not just because they want to create some controversy.

I think the plot will probably be done well because they want to create controversy. Haven't we been down this road before? Maybe she wants to provoke thought as others did for their generation. IDK. Just seems so contrived to me.

Let me guess, Mary Magdalene is going to be giving Jesus head because they were secretely lovers the whole time. Due to Lady Gaga making out with Jesus Christ, the religious right in America will be outraged and utterly offended. People will complain to her record label and try to get it banned from airing on television, yadda yadda yadda. I'll just wait and see... But maybe it won't be controversial and then THAT will be the talk of the town. confused

Unholyalliance

Why doesn't she just release a song called "I based my entire persona and career off of Madonna' and just be done with already.

Yeah, but at the same time this shit is boring and redundant.

Born This Way Really worked for me, though.

I wish she'd stop trying so hard to be deep or weird or shocking or provocative.

I hear ya. I don't think that's going to happen though unless it doesn't generate enough buzz for her. Unless it fails to get headlines and a million plus views on Vevo/YT. You get my drift....

lol, But it doesn't bother me. I like gender-bending, trans, weird, abnormal, deviate, strange, total BS, and/or bizarre things. That is why I like Prince. He is all that crap. He wasn't the first. She isn't the last. I can enjoy them both in that capacity.

If I were to dissect Prince into tiny parts like people do to Lady Gaga, I would not enjoy him half as much. Truly, we can make people as tiny as we want to in our own eyes, but I think LG gets short shrift for the generation she's a part of.

You know, the Reality TV Generation where no one can be a star, no one can have a persona, everyone has to be mined for emotional gold and offered up to be destroyed in the court of public approval. Zzzzzz. The lames can have whatever they wanna have and I don't even care.

Yeah, I don't really get the criticism that she's "not original" or that she's ripping off Madonna, etc. just because she's exploring themes that have been explored before. That's what good pop singers do, they build on what's come before and make it their own. It's like saying Prince isn't great because Little Richard came before him. Most female pop singers who dye their hair blonde almost automatically get put in a long line of famous blondes who have come before them. Gaga is a pop singer, so she's gonna be compared to most other pop tarts out there putting out crap music (and of course, what can be considered "crap" is totally subjective). I mean really, whether you think "Born This Way" is a rip off of "Express Yourself" or not, how many #1 pop songs have ever put out such a pro-LGBT message?

I fall into the camp that thinks she sings well, writes interesting music that has something to say even while being radio-friendly, and puts together great videos and concerts. When I saw the picture, if it is actually her in character as Mary Magdalene, it just makes me wonder how it will compare to other portrayals of Mary like "The Last Temptation of Christ" or even "Jesus Christ Superstar".

I think she gained tons of fans with Bad Romance. It was her first HUGE video. Everything about the video is completely perfect from storyline to fashion to music to editing to dancing. It's all on point, top notch kinda shit. To hate on Bad Romance, the one song pretty much errybody like, is to hate on LG just cuz its in style to hate on her now.

You know, kinda like when ATWIAD and Parade came out................................

Nah. Really because of Bad Romance I can care less about alejandro though. I’m just going to wait and see where she goes with this Judas video.
