Asian Artist's

I have a question, does anyone know any asian artists that was ever really big?, i ask cause well those who know some of my general discussion pages know i love asians cool

But that's beside the point, in history there have been some fantastic asian artist's like Misora Hibari, X Japan, Rain

i have a friend who work's at cherry-tree records & manages Far East Movement... he say's these guy's are the biggest selling asian artists ever in the U.S Which is sad cause there music is junk, nothing but shitty club music.

''All these girls be acting like they drunk''

It's sad there hasn't been a big asian artists yet, i know tons of great asian musicians who multi instrumentalist but of course FEM are the one's who get the record deal.

Well...If you're talking about Asian artist (not Asian-American)...you should know most of the countries in Asia unfortunately have very short history of popular music...Too busy dealing with communism, wars, atomic bombings, colonization, civilization up to at least 1960's...On top of that, most Asian countries used to ban Western music because of the lyrical messages that are too provocative for Asian culture...Or anything that's related to Christianity got banned too like John Lennon's song 'Imagine'. They always say 'Being able to enjoy, appreciate art and even being artistic are privilege that most people usually take for granted', and I totally agree with that. Not only were we not able to enjoy and study Western music, art, instruments but most Asian artists just didn't have the right environment to dream of influencing people with music...

Ugh I just think the biggest reason why we don't have a big Asian artist yet is because of lack of originality +_+ I HATE how most of Asian entertainers nowadays just simply rip off what's popular in America. It's like copy/paste...Even though we have very short history of popular music and that's why we can't help "borrowing" styles of genres of music like pop, hiphop, rock, R&B...I wish they could put some originality in those borrowed concepts...You've mentioned Rain, he's a perfect example. The main genre of his music(dance/pop), concept of his music videos, the way he sings, even the way he dances is almost exactly the same as Justin Timberlake and Usher...+_+

2. M-flo...I love them and they are pretty popular...

And I guess the MOST popular ones are Amuro Namie, Boa, X Japan....hmmm

I got into Jpop five years ago...

And I found a lot of cool artists there. What I find really amazing in Jpop is that the most important factor in their music are the lyrics. Sentimental, heart-warming, sad, happy-go-lucky and inspirational ones. I actually think they have their own unique sound.

Hmm.. I heard of Madhuri because of this movie my Prof showed us about the Ramayana or something. I kinda like the Choli ke peeche song but that's it.

Erm, aside from FEM, the only one I can add is Yoko Ono? lol

Seriously, it is sad that there are no Asian Americans/ artists visible in popular music. :/

I've started several Soil & Pimp threads and a couple with Shiina Ringo, but they were ignored. lol Hiroshima is a jazz fusion band that was kinda popular in the USA (at least with the jazz audience) during the 1970's & 1980's.

there's regine velasquez, kyla, charice pempengco, sarah geronimo, nina... they're all phillipinas, and do take from u.s. vocal styles... hee hee... when you said what you said i instantly thought of these people. philipino people are cold with it though... you think people fight about music on THIS site? have you seen a fight between philipino fans? WOAH.

There was a Japanese pop female duo named Pink Lady who were huge in Japan and were able to crossover to some extent in the US in the late 70s. Their single, "Kiss In The Dark" was one of the few singles by a Japanese act to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, charting at #37

I remember Luna Sea. They did the music for the J-drama "Please God Give Me More Time".

I can't remember who said it, but it isn't really true that Rain rips off or copies Justin and Usher. It's more like, all three of them grew up seeing Michael Jackson's work and all followed in his footsteps lol .

I actually prefer K-Pop (Korean Pop Music) to American Pop, the sound is just more along the lines of what I'm into - most of the techno-inspired stuff being released over here now just leaves me cold.
