Play With Bootsy--Like It OR Not???? My brutha n' law saw me listening 2 this LP yesterday and was supriced at how his young sistah n' law playing that ol' school shit while the new school shit is available "I still love you Lester " anyway, he listened 2 it and said that its "aight,,matta o' fact its off the chain comparing 2 whats out there BUT its not powerful as his previous LPs" don't know what does he ment by saying "powerful" becoz I haven't followed Bootsy's music from the start, I happen to respect him as a bass liner 4 James Brown and George Clinton tho. Anyway,,I loved the LP as a general, I've been playing it non-stop eva since I picked it from the mail(Thats b4 yesterday)
1.Groove Eternal-This is the MAIN reason why I bought this mofo, def the BEST song from there. Pure 80's jam that take you back to the early 80's(1982) when the Minneapolis sound was the shit.' 2.Dance To The Music-Another killer jam that makes me THINK that its Prince singing in there. 3-Don't Let 'em Bring You Down-With the exception of the chorus, the song is tight. Its sho is good 2 hear Rosie's voice again and with new different style(More JAZZY) and more low-key groove. 4-A Life 4 Da Sweet Ting-Funky # with a powerful message. Overall,,I'm digging the rest of the LP and it won't be long till I dig the LP as a "whole". Yo thoughts?

Yeah I like it overall, lot of fun jams. Sadly Bootsy has now claimed he's retiring from touring though.

Well,,its ol' school alright if you're sticking with the old fashioned music and I believe Bootsy was able to do that which is why I love the LP on the 1st place. Its a damn shame that he will retire, I think I saw his name in the Apollo last year and I ignored it. Damn me

I've not heard this album yet though to be truthful i never really got into Bootsy. I have his first three albums and whilst they have some good tracks on, it all seems a bit all over the place. Munchies For Your Love is my fave Bootsy song.

Damn me While this album is often very modern sounding with producers like Fatboy Slim and that Kylie Mingoue's people on the title track, I feel you Bootsy will always be associated with the 70s as a cult figure. Hopefully Bootsy only meant he isn't touring with this album. No mention of retiring from studio work. Make sure you get his debut two albums ("Stretchin Out In A Rubber Band" and "Ahh The Name is Bootsy"), classic stuff.

It's pretty good, but I can do without all the rappers.
Rap/Hip-Hop is such an old genre, lets hope in 2003 we final see it resigned to the side lines of popular music. --------------------

As for being an old genre it's still the newest of them all, little over twenty years of age. Not to mention it's the biggest seller, ain't going nowhere quite yet.

Rap newer than Acid House? (Mid-Late 80s)
Rap newer than Electroclash? (Mid-Late 90s) Rap Newer than Trance (as much as I dislike most of it - Early 90s) Nah, Rap/Hip-Hop ain't the newest genre, and it sure has reached maturity - as the dominant genre in pop at the moment - which means only one way to go, down, just like every other musical movement. --------------------

Oh please, give credit where credit is due,,, You're maybe not too fond of Rap/Hip Hop but it doesn't change the fact that it has influence on everything around it(Whether its LIFE or MUSIC GENRE). Rap/Hip-Hop speaks about REAL LIFE ISSUES, ya know?? Something ppl can relate to and guess what not only black ppl? But sometimes other racial groups too. Rap/Hip-Hop, is a lifestyle, shit its a NATION. And what the hell are you talking about "Its NOT new"?? In what way NOT new?? Production?? Lyrics? Rhymes?? What? If you're talking about the 3 then my friend you were living ander a rock all of your life. Know what you talking about now,,,

Let's hope in 2003 Prince finally gives up on all that rubbish! If you don't get hiphop, that's fine, that's your preference. But personally I think that you said some quite ridiculous. Hiphop is here to stay, despite the crap in the charts and despite MTV booty-shaking bullshit.

Well I kinda made it clear - I was talking about in terms of how long it has been around as a part of popular music, i.e. what the record companies invest in and push towards the mass market. I sure know what I'm talking about yes, you on the other hand, I dunno - You completely avoided my point about Rap/Hip-Hop reaching maturity at this level, and a decline is imminent. It's always gonna exist, but it won't always be in the charts. I place no musical/artistic merit in sales/airplay or how well music does in the charts - But it would be nice to hear someone like Miss Kittin in the charts rather than Ja Rule. ian said: Umm yeah... jazz, soul, blues, funk... these are all quite "old genres" too. I didn't say anything about Prince here, or those musical genres - I was talking about popular music, as in what is in the charts (which is popular music). I then said how I'd like to see it fade away from the charts - just like many of those genres you listed have. Music genres never die completely, but they stop getting played on pop radio/TV (neither of which I listen to or watch). -- I'm glad you both like Rap/Hip-Hop - I myself like *some* of it, but I certainly find most of it quite tiresome. --------------------

So, whats important 2 you is what IN the charts? Is that what you're saying? If so then I really don't know what to say, judging on what I hear/see now in the "charts" lol are Ashanti, Justin, Chritina and the rest of them fools(whether if they're good or not, thats your say). If thats real music 2 you then more power 2 you dear. And BTW the longest #.1 hits in the country this year was Delimma by NELLY & KELLY---Last time I checked it was a hip/hop shit. But overall, if you're gonna talk about long #.1 HITS and Money sales then I'm not right the person who could discuss with you about that becoz personaly I couldn't give a damn about #.1 hits and phat money sales. Hell, I would've AGREED with you if you said that "Hip Hop" is not DEEP and FUN like it was back in the day lol but you my friend got it all twisted saying it ain't new lol what the fuck eva, tell me whats new about the music 2day?? Nothing, absloutly NOTHING!

Those are sub-genres, ain't no recognised "Electroclash top 10". You know what I meant. I can't see it going anytime soon, hip-hop has garnered consistent popularity rather than being a casual trend. Production within the genre always moves on and adapts and whilst the chart fodder doesn't represent this, it's one of the few viable music forms which carries a "message".

Going back to the subject a bit, I think this is a great cd. There are a couple of songs that sound like tributes to his older stuff, but on the whole this is a fun thing to listen to. I also love that Lady Miss Keir has come out of hiding 'Tired of good' such a tune! The liner note says that backing vocals on groove eternal are by Bobby Womak, but no matter how many times I listen to it, it just keeps sounding like Prince! Even the little Sexy Dancer keyboards-whats going on! [This message was edited Fri Feb 7 4:48:00 PST 2003 by ladymisskat] The Hottest chip of them all - www.hotchip.co.uk - Get down with Prince
