I was born in '81 but this album will always remind me of my childhood...
I started spinnin records at 2 yrs old and my mama had this record along with these records:
in her crate
those 3 album covers, along with A Taste of Honey debut always take me back to learning how to operate a turntable as a young buck because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

Reading this just made me wish I had the same type of childhood. But times were already changing when I was born. If there was a vinyl player with good records I missed it, maybe Dad threw it out when I was about three. I had the videos though lol I just wished I was UP on these records at the age you were.

and the funny thing is my mama hardly played records I was the music player of the house after my big sis moved out
she'd had her run with buying LPs and staying current with music and didn't care one way or the other I guess LOL but I see that she had very good taste in music.. she had Aretha & Donny & Roberta and stuff like that, lots of Motown.. Mary Wells & Marvin Gaye & stuff
she hated Prince tho LOL
but I was STUCK ON CHAKA LOL loved "The Message In The Middle of The Bottom" LOL I can see me now singing along indian style on the floor in front of the speaker because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

it was the song that turnt my best friend onto the world of Chaka he said "biiiitch!!! I want some more of huh shit!!"
he been a Chakaholic ever since.. he loves the Rufusized album
my big sister on the other hand, loved Prince and was allowed to play him I guess my mama thought it was too mature for me (at 3 & 4 years old) I understood later "I sincerely wanna f*** the taste out of your mouth" because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

His behavior didn't even SHOCK me at a young age. I do remember the first time I looked at Chaka and I think I said something about "who's that lady with that red mop on her head?" [Edited 3/31/11 12:08pm]

I love this song! They should have released this as a single instead of "You're In Good Hands",which bombed as a single.

Yeah I know but after a while I got used to seeing it and slowly recognize all her hits by '92 around the time of "The Woman I Am".

well at least you discovered her hits & stuff before me I didn't get into Rufus & her 80s albums until an adult
it was Harlepolis & Monte from over there that started me up on Chaka Khan's catalog
I remember Monte going bananas at the wrecka stow when he found Echoes of An Era & herself titled album from 1982 while he & I were on a vinyl dig in Maryland some years back
wish I woulda grabbed em now because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

Tim, you MUST hear that album I can hook youup brotha (wink)
I can listen to "High Wire (The Aerialist)" & "I Mean You" (which she wrote lyrics to during the session) on repeat for hours
the fact that the album was cut in 2 days.. is just... brilliant.. the album is pure brilliance with Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, Chick Corea Stanley Clarke & Lenny White.. just brilliant because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."
