I know why Luda wore it and his reasoning behind it. That wasn't the point. I've been to the Freedom Fund Dinner and I stand by my original statement. shrug

Well, YOU may have known his reasoning behind it but all you posted was a picture with no explanation. Without the context of his performance others reading the thread could easily come to an inaccurate conclusion about his intent. And I stand by MY statement that Luda's use of the flag is completely different than Kid Rock's. shrug

The comment I quoted and the words 'They', 'Freedom Fund Dinner', 'Detroit' and 'fat donation check' should have given you a clue as to whom my comment was about but I guess YOU missed all that and just saw an ignorant rapper. Umph, my bad! rolleyes

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

The 'context' of Luda's picture was he could come to the Freedom Dinner drapped in the confedrate flag as long as he had a fat donation check, I bet cash money, nothing would be said.

Is that explaination enough for you? Or are you just really that dense?

I think you missed the point on the "why" Luda came dressed like that. It was his intention to dress like that so he could shed light on the negative images that flag conjured up. It wasn't just some fashion statemement he was making.

That's what I got from it along with he possibly wanted to piss off some of the people who take pride in the confederate flag. I'm sure Luda realizes the negative history behind the flag and wouldn't wear it just because he could. I would hope not anyway.

Kid Rock always seemed like a cretin to me in spite of his privileged upbringing.

The cluelessness of the Naacp doesn't surprise me after that debacle where they denounced the woman from the Dept of Agriculture without reviewing their own damn video.

Thanks for the explanation of Luda's performance...for a minute there I didn't know what to make of it.

Kid Rock been donning that confederate flag since jump. He's a cracker southeren white boy and he grew up with that flag. He has a black son for crying out loud. Dude isn't racist. Maybe a tad low on the IQ pole but not racist. I get the sensitivity around the use of the flag but like I said, dude been donning that flag since we first saw him and to expect him to change now is ridiculous. That's like expecting Bill Clinton to all of a sudden stop being a ho. Some things are just set in stone.

Actually, no he's not. Dude is from Michigan and grew up richer than a muthafucka. His father owned several car dealerships and he grew up on an estate.

LOL. That is really funny for some reason. lol

But we're talking about this specific canse, and in this specific case, that statement holds no water since the explanation of why the flag is disrespectful obviously fell on Kid Rock's deaf ears. This is why the NAACP needs to be slapped for honoring his dumb ass.

Have the chapter explained their justification for the honor?

This is the last thing I'm gonna say on this subject because it's what's on my mind and as always I give it straight up with no chaser.

Take it how you want it...makes no nevermind to me! finger

The reason that I say and stand by the notion that the Detroit Chapter of the NAACP is full of shit is because I've NEVER seen nor heard about Kid Rock on the streets of Detroit.

Yeah, yeah, yeah! I know he's been all up and through downtown. He's been at the Joe Louis Arena, Cobo, the Fox Theatre, Comerica Park, Ford Field, etc. doing what he does best and that's all well and good but I've NEVER...EVER...ONCE...heard of him being in Detroit nor caring about Detroit and it's people!

If anybody...should be receiving the award they want to give Kid Rock...in my eyes...it's Eminem!

Not because I happen to like Eminem and his music but because of what I happen to KNOW of Eminem and his love for Detroit!

I've heard about and witnessed his love for Detroit and it's people, first hand!

I've seen Eminem in his early days hanging around 7 Mile and Runyon. Kicking it...up at what used to be Osborn High School. Chillin' across the street in the parking lot of that fucked up ass Coney Island.

I've seen Eminem crusing down Chalmer's St. on the Eastside after he made it big. Pulling up in the gas station, at the intersection of the Whitt. (Houston-Whittier for those that don't know). Talking to and encouraging kids, he'd never seen before in his life.

At his best friend Proof's funeral, if you can find the video footage, the young man to the left of him, standing off to the side, that he gestured to in his remarks...was my only son. Who drove up here from Ohio and got in line to pay his last respects to a man that he admired, after getting off work at 7 am that morning. I can't even begin to tell you how much that meant to him.

I can't calculate how much money Eminem has contributed to the betterment of the city of Detroit, though quite puposely...I'm certain...bypassing the NAACP. shrug

So I'll let Eminem express his love for the city that he and I call and will always...truly consider...HOME...in his own words.

nod That's what it's always seemed like to me, too. And I imagine his incorporation of Confederate flag imagery in his shows, etc, is part of creating the whole Kid Rock 'brand', rather than necessarily a reflection of some kind of deeply-held racist commitments. At least it seems that way to me, from reading what other people have said in his defence here.

As far as the discussion on this thread about the racist or offensive aspects of using the flag is concerned, though (and I mean this generally, rather than aimed at anyone in particular), I understand what people are saying about his own personal beliefs and the way he is inclined towards Black people; and it may well be that he's a very tolerant individual, and even that he had no intention to offend by using the flag. Even if that's the case, though, the act itself is still offensive, because the meaning of words and symbols doesn't solely rest on the intentions of the person using them. (Should I choose to start calling my boss "c*ntface" because I've decided it now means something inoffensive, I'll learn that the hard way, for example!) Something like the Confederate flag objectively has a whole history tied up with racism that you can't just will away, and, in my opinion, he really should have taken on board the criticism that many people could reasonably find it offensive. It seems kind of insensitive that he put his own self-interested marketing strategy above that.
