mad Aww HELL. I came back to finally sit down and listen to the song. I can't even make it halfway through. The way she's saying "Friday" is ANNOYING....

whofarted Bless her heart, and this girl got PAID with that iTunes...what a mess.

Apart from a loud "SIGH"....that's about all I'd say critically about her, also. Her enunciation of the word is just like nails on a chalkboard to my ears after the first "chorus".

You are all seriously mocking this girl of 13 year old?

That does say a lot about you guys.

confused If she were an adult, she'd be mocked anyway. Maybe it's just that some of us have an opinion. No, her butt shouldn't be hanging out but her voice is AWFUL and that's just honesty. I really don't think what we say matters because she got PAID anyway. the sales of her song on iTunes hit the million-dollar mark. Of course she's a kid and in a few weeks or months, everyone will be on to the next thing. The only reason everyone talked about it in the first place was because she's been all over the news and whatnot. So what are we supposed to do, ignore her?

It's not like someone says they hate her or something because yes, she's thirteen. She's somebody's child. So maybe that does say something about us but a spade is a spade. It's a horrible song, a lot of people like it, a LOT more don't like it, most people don't understand how she got a deal, and she's made money off of it, end of story. Curiosity got me to even listen to the song and I wish I hadn't. It's for the younger ones and rightly so.

I think it's okay if we don't like one little girl's song. Or any other little girl. We're just expressing how we feel. shrug

Exactly.

Apparently Lady Gaga didn't get the joke either.

She was too pissed with people bullying her and actually called Rebecca a genius because of the song lol

I think a lot people are just mocking the overall cultural climate that allows such products to get noticed and manufactured in the first place.

In my view it would be the adults' responsibility to ensure that the children won't end up in situations that might damage their self-esteem too much. Yet there has been nobody telling her that the song doesn't really cut it and shouldn't be released commercially. The production company is allowing these kids to play out their pop star fantasies and hoping to make a buck out of it. It seems like they are finally making money out of it after one of their "artists" has turned into a joke on a global scale.

So, if you just pay people, it's okay to hurt them? You have no responsibility for the effect of your words on another human being, just as long as you pay them?

Really, it's absolutely okay then, because you don't actually use the words 'I hate her'?

Well, what do you care, right? You just have fun and laugh about some stupid white girl of 13 years old. She got her money now, so who really cares about how she feels. She can buy anything she wants now, so she should be happy confused ?

I would not feel comfortable about myself, when I was making fun of a 13 year old girl because the whole world does that.

Unless the question of whether to kick it in the front seat or chill in the back seat is actually a metaphor for the serious existential dilemma about whether one should be active and bravely attempt to steer one's own course through life, treating adversity as a matter of obstacles to be overcome; or if one should adopt a more passive approach, accepting the inherent powerlessness of human beings in the face of forces we can barely understand, let alone control, and simply try to enjoy the ride.

Bit like Hamlet, really.

and I was just expressing how I feel, I made a strong statement but it is not like I told anybody to go to hell or anything like that. kids have to grow in the industry, lots of establish artist that are considered just that "artist" started off making pop dribble, people forget acts like the cure started off with headless pop like boys don't cry, ever hear common's early stuff like his debut can I borrow a dollar? doesn't get much sillier than those lyrics with references to the comedy ghost buster, hell even soft and wet is not exactly profound, and even though they were great pop songs, the jackson fives debut was bubble gum pop also. I guess I feel like people are too hard on kids, its just playful pre teen crap that she and kids can relate to and who knows if she will grow as an artist or not.

While certainly snappier than Seventeen Seconds, but "Boys Don't Cry", "10:15 Saturday Night" and "Killing and Arab" still have meaning with some depth.

In the modern Batman comics, Bruce Wayne usually watches a video of the Three Stooges to get pissed on purpose, so he can go out there and hunt the criminals with a "show no mercy-kick their asses" attitude...if I was a superhero, I think I'd watch this video instead

words/emoticons cannot describe how I feel right now, I SERIOUSLY want to slpa the face of everyone involved in that video/song. IS NOT FUNNY, IT'S IRRITATING. IT'S NOT FUNNY AT ALL, it doesn't work as a parody, because it isn't...

crap like this is gonna destroy the credibility of electronic music FOREVER (or at least for a couple of decades). Acts like Kesha, Bieber or Rebecca must be neutralized and/or exiled.

and by the way, can anyone tell me why is the industry dressing/promoting underage teenager singers as adults?? hell, they look like biatches and pimps, damn I SWEAR I thought Rebecca was 19 until I read that she's actually 13. W-T-F???? neutral mad confused

another symbol of western decadence...

I can't even really view 'headless pop' as a criticism. Personally I'd take the bouncy pop of Fire in Cairo & BDC over almost anything else the Cure has recorded, especially that wailing, percussive tortured soul stuff. I don't think there's anything wrong with shallow, disposable music, aural sand castles that drift away with the next tide of trends, as long as it's made with a degree of craft. I think a good song is like good kitchen furniture: as long as it's well constructed and sturdy, it doesn't really matter if the person who made it is a moron or a scholar or a poet writing a balm for his pain or a greedy, fame-whore.

I agree wholeheartedly that vacuous pop is not always irredeemable. I just don't think "headless pop" is an accurate label for "Boys Don't Cry".

Oh, I’m sure you're right. If it is headless, it’s just in comparison to where he went later. I don’t really pay much attention to lyrics and song meaning anyway. However, I do generally hate it when people sing about their feelings, and I often feel twinges of disgust when a pop musician presents himself as a deep thinker, so I feel inclined to stick up for pop when it’s dismissed as disposable or mindless or whatever.

None of what I’m saying likely makes any sense. lol I’m probably just being a contrarian for the sake of being one, &half the stuff I like probably contradicts everything I’ve posted.
