Any R. Kelly Fans? Favorite Cuts, Opinions, Let's Discuss Kellz

Last night VH-1 Soul showed "I Wish" and it reminded me of how much I used to love that song. It also inspired me to go listen to some R. Kelly. I guess I had gone away from him after all the sextape controversy. However, as I listened to his music, I was reminded of how talented and prolific this dude was/is. Aside from his own RnB classics, he wrote, produced and remixed or was a featured artist on tracks for so many major and minor artists from RnB, Pop and Rap. From inspirational anthems to heartfelt love songs and sexy ballads to songs I'm embarrassed to say I like (Feelin' On You Booty), he has a very impressive body of work. I am not sure how he is viewed in the mainstream, but he certainly seems to represents the demon-plagued artist archetype.

How do you think history will view him? What will his legacy be? Do you think he will be honored in the way other artists have been with lifetime achievement awards?

What are your favorite Kellz cuts?

Here are some of mine:

I Wish

Heaven I Need a Hug

Step in the Name of Love - original and remix

Ladies' Night (Treat Her Like Heaven)

Loveland

Love Street

Raindrops

I Don't Mean It

I Mean I Don't Mean It

You Remind Me of Something

Red Carpet

When a Woman's Fed Up

Street Dreams (Remix) - Nas featuring R. Kelly

Anytime, Any Place (Remix) - Janet Jackson (Remixed by R. Kelly)

perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

People may not want to admit it, but R Kelly is a legend. He's written songs for everyone's favorite artists. Of course most people will only pay attention to the "alleged" sex tape and his "marriage" to Aaliyah. That man is a musical genius

Some of my favorite R Kelly songs? I'd be here all day, but these are just a few

Bump n Grind (and the remix)

Your Body's Calling (and the remix)

Feelin You in Stereo

Ignition

Greatest Show on Earth

You Remind Me

If

Half on a Baby

I Wish

TOO MANY!

Tbqh he's a living legend, musical genius, wrote and produced for your fave, praised by your fave, The R in R&B, etc.

Side note: Expect his closet fans to derail this thread with their usual remarks...

I wouldn't call him a legend, but he's a talented artist. His best song he's ever written wasn't even for himself - Maxwell's "Fortunate". That song is pure sex, fire, and passion.

Not really a fan of his...but I will say this. He is a very talented song-writer, and I don't think he gets enough credit for it.

As far as his personal life goes.....no comment confused

As a musician tho, I'm cool with him.

Wow! How could I forget Fortunate! That is a bonafide jam!

Thanks for sharing some opinions on here. This site has some well-informed and very opinionated music fans, so I wondered what people thought on here.

As some have said, I think he is a very talented songwriter who does not get enough credit for it.

"12 Play" is a R&B classic.... after that, I think he's been pretty hit or miss. Some decent albums, some shit ones, some career highlights and some serious mis-steps..... the less said about "Trapped In The Closet", the better.

As long as he stays in his lane, he does fine. When he tries too hard to appeal to the younger crowd, he gets off the rails. He's one of the most talented cats on scene since the 90's.

He´s a bit overrated as a musician and songwriter (I have a problem with people calling him a misunderstood genius lol ) but he definitely is an RnB legend already. His predatory ways left a bitter taste though....not cool.

This cover version is quite funny:

lol

Bounce , bounce, bounce baby. Bounce! And the singer even looks like R.Kelly, too. wink

Love him or hate him but you all know at least three R.Kelly songs that you can´t get enough of. wink

Can´t wait to meet him for dinner and a cup of coffee and a bottle of Hennessy when I visit him in Chicago in April. I have this friend in Chicago and she PROMISED me that we´re going to meet with R.Kelly if I visit her in April.

She also wants me to visit Common with her but I´m a bit undecided on that because she prefers Common´s version of Ghetto Heaven over the original.

But hey, we´ll spend some quality time with Mr. Kelly.

Kels, here we come. lol

I believe I can fly and Gotham City are my most hated R.Kelly songs.

Hate him, and he's only had two tolerable songs in my opinion, being Step In The Name of Love and Ignition Remix. I even loathe every associated thing he did with MJ. I would barely even call the man talented. He's the worst thing to happen to music period in the last 20 years.

I would rather listen to LaToya Jackson's Nashville album on loop for a day than a whole R Kelly album.

OK. lol I can´t stand Step in the Name of Love though. Actually, I´m not really a fan and his whole attitude totally turns me off of his music, more so than the music itself. But Fortunate and You Are Not Alone were quite good, IMO.

The whole pissing on underage girls ....ehhhh....left a bitter taste, for lack of better words. lol

My loathing of him started in 1994 and then heightened in 1995 with You Are Not Alone (IT'S THE SAME 5 NOTES IN THE SAME ORDER OVER AND OVER AGAIN IN THE VERSES AND CHORUS). Him later tunring out to be a sleazeball was neither here nor there as it was no surprise considering the content of his shitty music.
