Starland Vocal Band ~ Afternoon Delight

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

The song was basically about getting a little 'nookie' in the afternoon.

'I think he's workin up an appetie looking forward for to a little afternoon delight'

'Sky rockets in flight afternoon delight....'

'The thought of rubbing you is gettin me so excited..'

The sexual connatation makes me smile as a kid singing along to the words I never knew it was dirty.

I was surprised to find out John Denver co-written this tune.

I was under the impression one of their band mates (I think the guy who starts singing the song) wrote it, not John Denver.

I remember John Denver's name being attached to this band. Perhaps he helped get them signed.
I have to check my facts but I thought I read he co-written that song

John Denver discovered this group and signed them to his record label WindSong Records.

They later called getting that award the kiss of death. Surprised Berry Gordy didn't go on the press and say how the Brothers Johnson got robbed. wink

Yeah he didn't write it. Member Bill Danoff wrote it.
