Loved him. I was genuinely saddened to learn of his death.

OK, I've been obessed with Sherrick for over a decade now; what can one say but what might have been. disbelief

One can only hope his widow can pull it together, trust someone to mix, and release his music.

One of the tracks from Sherrick's unreleased material, an album that was suppose to be released in '09, it's now '11. shrug

'all because of you' is my favourite song from him. i sing that to my little cat friend. sherrick is DEFINITELY appreciated. 'just call' was the jam when it came out. that was played all over brooklyn, that's for sure. when people ask me what music i like from the 1980s, sherrick is actually one of the first artists i think of. yeah, he would have done quite well for himself if he didn't move to the spirit world.

he's got motown associations as well, and almost released stuff on the label. warners then picked him up.

I had hoped TV-One would have done an "Unsung" episode on him. What a fasinating and sad story. However, he probably didn't have enough history/years in the business for them to dedicate an entire episode to him.

His album was recently reissued as a Japan import and includes the bonus track "I'm Scared Of You", which was the b-side to one of the singles from the album.

There was a Remix Album released which included "I'm Scared of You" with the Remixes of "Call Me" also. It's my understanding F. Lamotte Smith a.k.a Sherrick has enough material for at least 3 CD's; the last single I posted, was suppose to be the released single from his next album prior to his death.

I can't recall but I read an excerpt from a book about Motown or WB that went into detail how Sherrick came to be discovered by Raynoma Gordy and how his horrendous drug addiction stopped a career way before his death. The author wrote that Sherrick and Raymona's relation ship was both professional and personal. How serious they're relationship was to her isn't clear but for Sherrick it was a means to an ends. Raynoma Gordy was the person he ran to when he was in-dept to one drug dealer or other. It was a tragic tale of Raymona and others paying off Sherricks drug depts, him checking into rehab, only to leave looking for a dealer.
