This general idea that drummers are actually musicians is rather hilarious. You can't even say they are isntrumentalists as they can not play in key(not even with auto-tune), and since they can't play, what can they do? They are mere rhythmicists in the broadest sense of the term since they cannot compose, arrange, or write actual music....

So whenever I see a tv interview, and I see one of these drummers with the title "musician" beneath them, I have to chuckle....

I often wonder how they get a pass as a musician, without being an actual musician.

I do think that some singers who don't play an instrument can be musicians since they hear and create musical melodies in their head that they get people who do play instruments and read music to transcribe and play live. They are still creating music.

A drummer is a musician. PERIOD.

A beatbox performer is singing the sounds of a drum.

Actually no. Not a MJ fan at all. But I guess that's the way he wrote music? I've read about a lot of singers who write songs this way. I wasn't thinking of anyone in particular.

OK cool. I've read and saw interviews with him explaining his process of creating music and it's pretty much the way you described it earlier.

These threads are retarded. Rappers are real musicians and so are drummers. You may not like what they do or 'get' it, but that doesn't mean they aren't.

I'd say it's more like, "Are pediatricians doctors?", and the answer is yes. All pediatricians are doctors, but all doctors are not necessarily pediatricians. Likewise, all instrumentalists are musicians, but all musicians are not necessarily instrumentalists.
