A singer is not a musician if all they do is sing melodies that someone else wrote. If they create melodies themselves although they don't play an instrument they are a musician.

Yep and guitarists and bass players aren't musicians either. Prince & Jimi Hendrix are hack's. Led Zeppelin's rhythm section was weak. That's about the same logic as the op's statements

I don't agree with the concept that if you don't play an instrument you aren't a musician. I don't agree with that at all.

Listen to the way Prince programs the LinnDrum for example. Even if he didn't do ANYTHING but that, the MUSIC he creates with that is magical. It's music creation, which would still make him a musician. If you sing a song acapella, is that not music? Therefore that singer also = musician.

Being able to do acapella is an art form of it's own, i have friend's that can do it and studies it. It is pretty awesome

Umm But what about Drummers, who sing, play and perform and even compose, examples include

Steven Tyler (He was the drummer in Aerosmith originally)

Prince (He is a kick ass drummer)

Phil Collins (Played Drums in Genesis long before he sand and composed)

Sheila E (Not sure if she wrote music, but can play drums, percussion instruments and definitely can sing)

Ringo Starr (He has a few Beatles songs, and moderately successful solo career)
