Soundtracks...what are your faves? I'm not a big classical music fan, but I love soundtrack albums. Obviously, soundtracks to my fave films are accounted for in my collection...also a big fan of James Horner, Hans Zimmer and the late great John Barry. Particular faves are:-
Aliens Halloween Lord of the Rings: Complete Collection Braveheart Batman Begins / The Dark Knight
Anyone else well into the soundtrack thing (and not those b*llocks "song from and inspired by" rubbish ones!)?? www.filmsfilmsfilms.co.uk - The internet's best movie site!

Horner's work on The Land Before Time soundtrack was pretty amazing. I like Horner, John Williams, and John Barry. Also I am fan of Hans Zimmer and Bear McCreary.
My favorite soundtrack of all time: The Empire Strikes Back by John Williams. I wore the hell out of my tape deck playing that thing.

What are the two untitled ones above Stevie?
I think you left nothing for me to mention. I'd like to add these two though: [img:$uid]http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drn400/n448/n44810g2vdy.jpg[/img:$uid] [img:$uid]http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drn600/n618/n61846w8vmd.jpg[/img:$uid] [img:$uid]http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drc600/c695/c695038jom6.jpg[/img:$uid]

I'm aware this is the USA version, but it's the one I had 1st and heard the most, and I like the George Martin instrumentals. They're not on the British version.

the first one is the Pink Floyd album Obscured by Clouds *aka* soundtrack to the Barbet Schroeder film La Vallée
the second one is another Pink Floyd album More *aka* soundtrack to the seldom-seen French hippie movie of the same name

Purple Rain (obviously), Phantasm, Get Rich Or Die Tryin' is pretty good. I used to really like the 8 Mile soundtrack but I kind of grew out of it. Still like some songs though. I know I like more but I can't think of any.

I like the 1999 "Songtrack" version of Yellow Submarine better than the original. It's too bad the 2009 remasters weren't mixed this way. I think the sound quality is better here. I believe the original poster didn't really want us to post pop music soundtracks.
A few that spring to mind (I've sold most of my OST CDs though):
Kundun The Day The Earth Stood Still Bladerunner Hellraiser Apocalypse Now Beetlejuice Ed Wood Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence Planet Of The Apes (original) Seven Years In Tibet
... oh yeah, and Karate Kid II. I had to get that as a bootleg as it was never released officially.
Most of what I've picked out there would seem to have quite a lot of electronic effects, synths and ethnic instruments being used together with an orchestra though. Just goes with my personal taste. There's tons of great stuff on indie films, but I'll leave those out.
Shoutouts: the original songs on Mo' Better Blues and Velvet Goldmine.

Austin Powers (the first one)
Battlestar Galactica (all 4 seasons soundtracks are amazing)
Hook

Yeah, I was thinking more along the lines of what I call "proper" soundtracks...obviously there are some great song soundtracks (Purple Rain, Kill Bill, Jackie Brown, Shaft are a few of my faves)...
...just love the orchestral stuff though...!! www.filmsfilmsfilms.co.uk - The internet's best movie site!

That's not really a soundtrack, is it? That's the Michael Jackson storybook, right?
