Why no new record for so long?

Anyone still feel her or are you over it? Were you ever into it?

Fave cuts?

Right now I'm feeling "Police Me" from the brilliant Abnormally Attracted to Sin.

I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

I LOVED Tori! But I think she lost me after "The Beekeeper"... I still got every release afterwards, but they never seemed to hit me like the others before...I'll still get her new ones, but I don't think they'll resonate like the ones prior...sometimes, she's just too way out there for me to relate...and still...I think she's underated...

everything up to and including "to venus and back" is pure gold.

after that things became very patchy for me.

there are some total gems on the "piano" box set tho music

the material she released after "venus", i'm still slowly trying to

crack.

finally got my head around "scarlet" and like most of the album

now. like it a lot, actually.

the other albums that followed, i'm still up to only 2 or maybe 3

songs that i'm totally into.

but somehow i'm not that disappointed. it feels like there are a

lot of songs on those albums still waiting to be discovered.

this while i'm waiting for her to get back to her older form and

release another album that will click with me upon first listen

and totally knock me off my fcking feet for weeks and weeks on

end.

i know she has it in her, she just needs to find direction again.

somehow i can understand how she moved so far away from

her original sound but then she started looking back and now it

seems that she's just confused as fuck. the last album sounded

totally schizoid.

then there was that 'winter solstice' album, which has a few nice

tunes on it.

all in all, i think there are still about 40 new songs that i totally

don't get yet.

compared to about 2 old songs (pre-venus) that i don't get.

she was a force of nature once, that's for sure. still hoping she

will get back to that brilliance.

well she did release 2 full lengths in 2009 (abnormally attracted to sin and midwinter)

but last i heard she was working on a musical called "the light princess"

so it seems like that rebirth album is yet a little way down the road for now biggrin

She fascinates the crap out of me, but that's what kinda keeps me from actually going ahead and trying out her music - I get the feeling it's too far out there for me. It's like I keep sniffing around her then backing off.

"Abnormally Attracted to Sin" was a fantastic record - I liked it much better than the previous two (Doll Posse and Beekeeper). Don't get me wrong, both of those albums had great moments, but to me "AATS" is one of the best albums of her career. The production and sound was MUCH better than on "Doll Posse", and the songwriting was absolutely killer. "Curtain Call" is one of her finest moments. I think the album was sadly overlooked, and will be one of those records that will be more appreciated as the years go by.

I LIVED for Tori Amos albums from age 15 to 23 or so, then my adoration cooled slightly. I didnt buy a Tori album after Beekeeper. I guess I should get AATS.

"boys for pele" and "choirgirl" are literally part of my dna, i've listened to them so much.

perhaps even more so than any prince album, ever.

still find it hard to think about how much her music changed later on. but i have hopes it

might one day reach those glorious hights again.

Those are my 2 favorites as well.

Funny, today was the first time I've listened to her in a while. And then this thread. That happens to me all the time.

Massive Tori fan, have been for many, many years now.

Whilst I agree that her golden era was Pele-Choirgirl era, I still think her last few records have had some gems. I actually was in the minority of fans who loved The Beekeeper. It's so light and chilled with some really beautiful songwriting. I wouldn't want every record to be as heavy as her 90s output, as great as that time was I'm glad she's moved on from that kind of stuff. It wouldn't look right coming from a married mother approaching her fifties.

Did any of you guys see the live performances of Strong Black Vine from the Sinful Attraction tour? That was some powerful, angsty shit right there! Reminded me of Professional Widow Tori.

I used to dig her music. Haven't heard anything in awhile. Didn't realize she's released so many records. Used to think she was weirdly sexy in her own way too. Call me crazy. wacky

So glad you said that.

I looooove Beekeeper! Yes, there are some dreaded mid tempo filler cuts (Cars & Guitars, Ribbons Undone) but with some editing it would be a classic. The songs are so simple, mellow, organic, smooth...I heard Marvin Gaye was her inspiration for this one, and I can totally see it. I know fans are divided and Tori herself is rumored to have hated the bare, overly simplistic production of the final product, and that's why she went so far the other way on the followup, but I simply love the melodies, they're oh so gooey, warm...it's like a nice hot bath on a spring day.

she's got her talents, no doubt.
Maybe it's me getting older and less impressionable she could never hit me as Kate Bush once did.

Nice to see some positive comments on The Beekeeper. I've been defending that album for ages. It has a sunny, breezy vibe to it that I really like. I just think alot of fans have a particular concept in mind for what they think Tori Amos music should be, and the words "sunny" and "breezy" don't really fit.

That said, there is still alot of depth and darkness on that album as well.

It's not my favorite of hers, but there are moments of absolute beauty. "Sleeps With Butterflies" is about as lovely a pop/rock song as you'll ever hear.

Sweet The Sting is my jam from that album! That could've been a big hit if Tori had some decent promotion and airplay.
